New LEGO Play App Launched

The LEGO Group has recently launched a new app: LEGO Play. This new creative app replaces the previous LEGO Life app which was launched in 2017. With a target audience of 6-14 this app is centred around embracing and encouraging creativity. The building blocks of childhood So what exactly does LEGO Play have that could pull the kids away from other games? Quite a lot actually. For example the Creative Canvas, a place where kids can design and edit images. Or Brick Builder, where they can build in 3D with digital LEGO elements. Letting keen MOC builders see things from all sorts of angles! What app would be complete without personalisation? LEGO Play does so safely by allowing app users to only use pre-moderated usernames. This is on top of being able to to create their ...

LEGO Board Games: More to Come

Building Board Games Together: The LEGO Group and Asmodee Partnership. That's the strapline from the official press release. It summarises everything rather nicely and yet not quite enough. Earlier this year the LEGO Group announced a partnership with Asmodee to create a board game called Monkey Palace. It seems this partnership is going well as the companies have entered into a multi-year partnership. What does this mean? It means more LEGO Board games! Dotted Games has entered the chat. To cement the partnership The LEGO Group and Asmodee have created a whole new studio that will work solely on the LEGO board games. The name of this studio? Dotted Games! The Dotted Games studio will be based in Denmark with an award winning team at the helm. That's people who have won awards for the...

Yes, yes: More LEGO Animal Crossing sets

Earlier this year LEGO released five Animal Crossing themed sets. I was severely underwhelmed when these were first revealed in a Press Release in October 2023. They didn't capture everything I loved about Animal Crossing and LEGO. Or so I thought. Then these sets hit the shelves. I saw pictures from friends. I watched TikToks showing off people's builds. Pretty quickly I realised I was wrong. These sets may have been sold separately but they were meant to be pieced together. To be customised. To be built and shaped into your very own island. Just like Tom Nook intended. I bought every single set. I carved out space amongst the LEGO collection and dedicated a whole shelf to my real life island. Fast forward to present day and LEGO have released two more Animal Crossing sets. And this ti...

Not only have we had the recent Fortnite reveals and the news about the Shadow the Hedgehog bust, but LEGO decided to use San Diego Comic-Con as the perfect place to announce the brand new LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set! This set is the fifth addition to the 18+ LEGO Super Mario range, and we couldn't think of anything more perfect than Mario and Yoshi being reunited in 16bit style. WAHOOO! As this is a set aimed at us adults LEGO have really leant into the side-scrolling Nintendo nostalgia and I love it. The LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set uses a 2D build to bring the pixelated joy of our 16bit childhood to life. Mario may be an icon but we all know the real fan favourite is his trusty companion and stead, Yos...

LEGO Bricktales – Switch Review

LEGO Bricktales—a 3D puzzle-adventure game centred around helping NPCs with LEGO-brick constructions—is one of my surprise gaming experiences of the year. It was developed by Clockstone Studios and published by Thunderful Publishing. More than any LEGO game to date, developer Clockstone Studios have captured the essence of what makes LEGO fun. The in-game building mechanic feels somehow magical: I didn’t just remember what it was like to be a kid playing with little blocks—blocks I’ve given no thought to as an adult—I relived it. The game lured my weary, aging mind back to the same calm, happy mental space I had as a seven or eight year old. Once again I was living my life brick by brick in an innocent, zen-like calm. It felt great. And the video game elements enhanced this core experie...

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review

Star Wars and LEGO games feel like they have been around forever right? The first Star Wars game was The Empire Strikes Back, released in 1982 for the Intellivision and Atari 2600. LEGO Fun to Build was officially the first LEGO game released way back in 1995 on the Sega Pico. It wasn't until 2001 that LEGO started getting into the licensing game with LEGO Creator: Harry Potter released on PC. Then it all changed in the year 2005. LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game was released on April 2nd of that year, followed by Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy a year later. With that said, almost 17 years to the day of the first LEGO Star Wars game, we have the one that we have all been waiting for; LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - Consume You, It Will H...
