Bard’s Tale IV Review – 30 Years in the Making

InXile bring us the long awaited sequel to the Bard's Tale trilogy, the cleverly named Bard's Tale IV. It's definitely time to dust off my old lute and get the tuner out. What surprises lay in store as the Bard tries to save the day yet again. Gameplay After a brief introduction (skippable) to your history you head off to Skara Brae. There are Scottish accents a plenty as well and even a smattering of tartan for authenticity. I'm pretty sure it's not the same Skara Brae though, nor the one used in the 'Ultima' series of games. This Skara Brae is brimming with trouble, and it's trouble that you can help sort out. You get a choice to be the pre made bard of the tale, or you can customise your own character. There are the usual choices of Bard, Rogue, Warrior or Robed Guy to choose from...

SCUM Preview – Crawl, Walk, Run, Make Computer Game.

Gamepires & Croteam bring us the delightfully named SCUM to check out for PC. This prison island multiplayer survival game looks like it could be hard to escape from. Time to don my bright orange prison gear and make a hasty shiv. I'm going in. Gameplay I decided to jump right in to the single player mode to learn the controls.  First I had to create a character, so I gave him my stats. Not the best plan given my actual age and size, but I might as well be realistic. Points are spent on skills, so work out what will be most useful. Upon entering SCUM I found I could move around using the WASD and mouse and there seemed to be plenty of places to go. After investigation I found a path down to a river and a dam, it looked interesting so I went and investigated. I jogged down, and 15...

Ultimate Fishing Simulator PC Review – Time To Get Snagged

Bit Golem have been busy in their waders and cagoules learning all there is to know about fishing. All that hard work has turned into Ultimate Fishing Simulator. So has it all been worthwhile? Time to pack my sandwiches, make a thermos of tea and delve into the world of fishing. Will I find a whopper or will I reel in a tiddler? Gameplay Ultimate Fishing Simulator looks quite intimidating when you first start. It seems that there are lots of things I need to be a successful angler, rod, line, hooks, bait etc... I have a basic set up and a little money so I can dive straight in. So that is the plan. There is only one choice of destination when starting a new game, the lovely picturesque Betty Lake up in the mountains. I tried nothing fancy at first, simple bait, hook and float. Cas...

Airheart Review- Fishing Ain’t What it Used to Be

Blindflug Studios have decided to take us on a journey to the stratosphere, but will it be a meteoric climb for Airheart or an arduous climb to the top. Flying goggles at the ready and a tuna sandwich (you'll see) and it's time to pilot my plane into the sky. Gameplay Airheart is a twin stick shooter, a crafting game and a hunting game all in one. Bargain! The sky is split into different levels of altitude and your quest is to reach the top. Not just reach the top, but catch the legendary Skywhale. Launch your plane and play a little tutorial to get used to the controls. Learn to steer, to shoot, to harpoon things, all the essentials, then set off for real. So what's to do? Well you need money, and money comes from fishing. Simply fly into the fish to catch them, it couldn't be easier. B...

Bomber Crew PS4 Review – (With Secret Weapons Shhhhh!)

Curve Digital and Runner Duck Games have released Bomber Crew for the PS4. I thought as I had already played the game on the PC (Here) I would take a quick look and let you know my thoughts. Parachute at the ready, flask of tea and full instructions to smoke me a kipper, I'll be home for breakfast left for the kitchen staff, AKA my wife. Chocks away once more. Gameplay The premise of Bomber Crew is simple. Take control of a bomber during World War II and bomb things, drop supplies, take recon photos and shoot down as many enemy fighters as possible. One would initially think that conjuring the spirit of Douglas Bader would be the way forward, well that might work, but I was more in the land of a different Douglas, Douglas Adams. The reason for this is simple, these two words will ...

Lust For Darkness – PC Review – Enter deep into the unknown, very deep.

Movie Games Lunarium bring us Lust For Darkness, an immersive puzzle based story driven quest for …. well something. I don't want to give too much away. So without further ado I shall don my strap-on and zip up my gimp mask ready for an adventure into the unknown. Maybe. Gameplay After a brief warning about epilepsy and a suggestion of 'playing at night with headphones on for a more immersive experience' you find yourself in a locked room. Incidentally, I didn't play at night in a darkened room with headphones on. My initial reaction to that was F**k that. It was the sensible and recommended option for those who like peaceful sleep. Movement is the standard mouse to look around and WASD to move around. Lust For Darkness has done something rather unusual when interacting with objec...

Oh Sir! The Hollywood Roast Review- A game of two halves

Vile Monarch have been hard at work creating Oh Sir! The Hollywood Roast. Slightly concerned for my pride I decided to check out what it was all about. So I set my humiliation level to max and fired it up. Gameplay Oh Sir! The Hollywood Roast is a remodelling of 'Oh Sir! The Insult Simulator'.  So how does it all work? Well first you choose your game mode, solo or 2 player, then you roast people. It's so simple even an independent game developer could understand it (not my finest roast). The solo option has a career mode, and as we probably all know, some people have made careers out of roasting people. I have roasted a few games in the past, so hopefully Oh Sir! The Hollywood Roast will survive. Choose your player. Each player is a loosely disguised celebrity waiting to trash tal...

Zomborg Review – You Are Legend! (Hopefully)

Game Dev Lab bring us Zomborg. I'm sure I don't have to give much away in regards to what the game is about. Time to pop on a helmet, some DMs and get some cartridges into that shotgun. It's going to be a long night. Gameplay First things first, you get a handy tutorial to learn the keys. This is always a good thing in my book. There are a few aspects to learn that will help you in the quest to kill everything. You have a nice third person down view on yourself and the surrounding area. Zoom in if you should so desire. Swing the camera round so you can traverse through or over any obstacles. You have a torch (flashlight), you have a friend, you have grenades. So far there is nothing to not like. Time to start the campaign. Zomborg is nothing new, well Zomborgs themselves are, ...

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 Review – B*Witched, B*Killing, B*Happy

Nippon Ichi Software bring us The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2, the sequel to this original release in 2013.  The big question is 'Have they managed to sway the indifference that met the first release?' Well I guess it's time to polish my armour, after all, after 100 years it's going to need a little TLC. Gameplay The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 tells the story of 2 sisters, Amelie and Milm. Amelie is a headstrong young girl who wants to protect her younger sister, and Milm has been possessed by an evil witch called Ckelka. You get to be the Hundred Knight and kill lots of things for them both, well all three of them if you are going to be picky. The learning curve on this game is very shallow, and anyone who has read my previous reviews will know that I am now in my element. Mo...

Bomber Crew Secret Weapons DLC – Biggles In A Bomber

The first DLC for Bomber Crew has arrived in the form of Bomber Crew Secret Weapons. Time to strap on a pair of flying goggles and a warm coat and get out there. Chocks away! What's new? Well what's new I hear you asking. Well there are a couple of new weapons and a new campaign. There is also some new livery and outfits for the crew that are quite cool. The new campaign is set in a very cold wintery Europe, there is snow everywhere, and as such the enemy planes are a little harder to see. There is also a new experimental enemy aircraft just to keep you on your toes. The premise of the game is still fairly simple, bomb this, drop that and don't get blown away. The game hasn't become any easier, and the new mission isn't really designed for the new player, so build up your aircraft, ge...
