Frostpunk Review – You’re A Cold As Ice

11 Bit Studios brings us Frostpunk, an innovative city-building game set in a post-apocalyptic frozen England. Time to dig out my boots, snowshoes and put hot soup in my thermos. This adventure looks like it could be a long one. Gameplay A band of people gather, they set off to create a new world where they can thrive. It's very cold and many will not make the perilous journey. I have a sneaking suspicion that I will make it, not only make it, but the people will look up to me and in my hands will be the responsibility of creating the last city on earth and saving humanity. Pressure off, if I fail, no one will ever read the history books. Frostpunk starts out by giving me three options, I can play a specific scenario from the main game, play endless mode, or I can play 'A New Home...

House of Golf Review – Fore!

Teeing off on November 8th is the Switch exclusive House of Golf. The arcade golf game developed by UK company Atomicom hits the eShop today but have they hit a hole in one or just got a bogey? Gameplay Crazy golf is fun right? Although you know what to expect, a series of small courses that has an overarching theme, the core gameplay of this sub-genre has always appealed to me but  what makes this game stand out? Well, one key aspect of the game that really blew the sand from my balls (due to the golf ball landing in a bunker… don’t be filthy) is the design. Taking inspiration from games like Micro Machines, each environment is loving crafted to feel like the inside of a home. This nostalgia trip made me want to play in this world for longer than other mini golf games that lack innovati...

Does Vampyr suck, or will you go batty for it? Gameplay Vampyr is a mish-mash of genres, with the introductory section of the game teaching you how to fight and flee as you are pursued by the Guard of Priwen, a gang of nasty cockney vampire hunters who serve as primary antagonists through ...

Our Thoughts – Xbox All Access

As per our news article recently you will have probably heard in the games vine that Microsoft released their new Xbox service today Xbox All Access. What is Xbox All Access? Xbox All Access is a contracted gaming service that Microsoft launched today (5th November 2019). It is a new service whereby Microsoft is making consoles more accessible. In 2018 Microsoft trialed its newly released service in America. The basis of the service is that you chose the Xbox console you are on the market for and depending upon the chosen console depends on the monthly fee. Obviously, the higher specifica...

Close To The Sun Review – Jump Scare Central

Well, talk about the light at the end of the tunnel. I have been trying so hard for the best part of a year to find a horror game that suits my own personal problem-solving desires, while at the same time grips me with a solid storyline. Let me introduce you to Close To The Sun. If you have ever thought, “What I need is a good first-person, story-led horror with plenty of jump scares to see me through Halloween and beyond” – then look no further. It dropped on consoles on 29th October. The game is created by Wired Productions and takes inspiration from the likes of Bioshock with its art deco designs; showing signs reminiscent of other games such as Alien: Isolation where combat is not an option, your existence depends solely on your ability to survive. Close To The Sun is set in t...

Into the Dead 2 Review – The Boring Dead

Lurching its way onto the Switch is Into the Dead 2, an auto-run, zombie survival game by PikPok, The game started life as a free to play the mobile game but has been resurrected as a full title. Gone are the microtransactions but still lingering is a horde of tropes that have plagued the zombie genre since The Walking Dead made its debut on AMC. Let's start with the story. You are Henry, a generic dude who crashes his truck and is trying to make his way home but wait the city is overrun by zombies! Okay, the story is weak but I can't imagine many people are looking at this game wanting a deep and engaging narrative. So let's move on. Gameplay As you'd expect, the aim of the game is to shoot or avoid zombies whilst automatically running from point A to point B. You can strafe left...
