ThunderX3 LAB-X Desk Review

I’m usually found building LEGO rather than desks. But when we got an email from ThunderX3 asking us if we wanted to check out a desk, the answer was a resounding Yes! Following on shortly the box was delivered and I found myself the owner of a new ThunderX3 Lab-X height adjustable desk. I was like a proud parent. I was also wondering where on earth to build this behemoth.

Bring Your Gaming To New Heights

Armed with some trusty tools, a charged drill, and some fancy white gloves that came in the box, off I went, into the building zone. Otherwise known as the floor in the office.

Building Time

First things first, you will need a lot of space to build this desk. Thankfully the office at TCHQ has a decent floor area.  And so it was time for the old desk to move out, replaced by all the parts for the new one. Once it was all out on the floor I was a little surprised at how few parts there were. I honestly thought I’d either missed something in the box, or there was something missing from the delivery. Alas, it was all there and once I’d gone through the instructions I was ready.

It’s Building Time!

The building process was methodical and easy to follow. The majority of the heavy lifting was done in the first few steps. Plenty of screws to attach all the structural members and before long the desk was starting to take shape. With a tempered glass mousepad area, the desk was strong. Believe me I could tell how strong and well made everything was, all through the build. Even the mesh side plates that are designed to enhance air intake, were sturdy.

All in all, I think the build time was around 3 hours. I did built it on my own and so if you have a helping hand this will take you much less time.

Just follow the instruction, it’s really that easy.

Features

The ThunderX3 Lab-X desk measures a whopping 170cm x 75cm. So it’s pretty sizeable. I can fit my mammoth PC tower, an ultrawide monitor as well as a second portrait monitor, all with enough space either side for my speakers to peek out.

With a silent motor height adjustment from 75cm all the way up to 120cm. It really does go high. I’ve used it now for a month, both standing and sitting and I have to admit, I find it quite fun to be stood up whilst on Teams meetings. You can get a few sneaky steps in this way too! The desk also has an anti-collision system as well, but I’ve not been brave enough to try that out properly. All I’ll say is that the motor really is smooth and steady.

The setup is complete, almost

The mesh panels, designed for increased air intake, are a neat touch. With one on each side so you can set it up however you feel. You can also purchase additional magnetic fans that can increase this even more. I’m looking to upgrade my PC soon as it’s about 7 years old, that being said with the air flow this desk gives my fans have never been happier!

The desk itself has an aluminium track all around to add some accessories. Included in the box is both a cup holder and a headphone hook. Personally, I don’t use these as the desk itself is spacious enough for my headphone stand and to have a drink or two on the desk.

Final Thoughts

The ThunderX3 Lab-X desk is both functional as well as a talking point. I often would set it at its highest setting, just to see the reaction when someone new comes into the office. Needless to say, this desk is now a permanent feature in the TCHQ. With a straight forward build process, and ample features, it’ll be hard pressed to be usurped from my gaming space.

The ThunderX3 Lab-X Height Adjustable Desk receives the Thumb Culture Gold Award. Only missing out on our highest award due to the price tag, as not everyone can afford to buy a new desk for around £400. If you’re a gamer with some savings and are looking for a new height adjustable desk, then you can’t go wrong with the ThunderX3 Lab-X .
