F1 2019 Interview with Lee Mather

Ben ‘Rwaggy’ McConnell had the greatest pleasure of visiting the Codemasters HQ to meet the team behind the creation of the new F1 2019 game and even got to experience the stunning new instalment in the F1 gaming franchise. Whilst on the visit, Ben managed to get an amazing opportunity to interview the Game Director of the Formula 1 Game Series, Lee Mather. Ben: First of all I want to thank you for this opportunity to come down and try the game, I experienced some major changes immediately between F1 2018 and F1 2019 in terms of graphical changes. What sort of conversations were being had within the organisation to capture the audience? Lee: We always wanted to expand on building the F1 season but also building the world around F1, building the driver journey. That was always impo...

NBA 2K19 Review – Still going strong 20 years on?

In the year 1999 EA Sports was hit with a new competitor in the video game basketball genre. Developer Visual Concepts launched the NBA 2K series which has gone from strength to strength since that first outing. The series was originally published by SEGA but now by 2K Sports. Whilst EA has (eventually) pulled ahead in the football stakes with FIFA and stands unchallenged with Madden it has consistently been beaten into a poor second by the NBA 2K series. NBA 2K19 marks the 20th in the series and after a slight wobble with 2K18 is NBA 2K19 the G.O.A.T or just a bench warmer until the inevitable 2K20 next year? Gameplay If it ain't broke don't fix it is very much the mantra here. Saying that the devs have made the usual yearly tweaks seemingly taking on-board the criticisms made of la...

Burnout Paradise Remastered Review – Nostalgia Overload!

As with the majority of people, I loved Burnout Paradise and played it religiously throughout my PS3 times. Then when it was announced that Burnout Paradise was getting a remaster, I literally lost my mind. Fortunately I found it again and I'm able to put together these words to give you a low down on whether the remaster is worth buying. Gameplay So if you have never played Burnout Paradise before then you are in for a treat. Essentially you are driving around at break neck speeds, trying not to crash, whilst carrying out a number of different race types. So starting up the game, you are introduced to Guns N Roses, and the amazing tune of Paradise City, and your narrator that you will hear throughout your game time. Once you have gone through a brief tutorial of the game and are rele...

Gravel Review – Spiritual Success

Gravel from Milestone has dropped down some steep hills and brings a taste of what rally games could be. It could potentially be classed as a spiritual successor to Sega Rally. I know, that is some big claims, but with its straight forward racing and responsive controls, you could be fooled into it. Gameplay Gravel is classed as the ultimate off-road experience, now that is some hefty claims, but it does live up to it in some respects. During the main portion of Gravel you are taking part in the wildest show on the Gravel Channel web TV, travelling around the world, discovering the wide variety of environments and defying the Masters! Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Videogame Review

Monster Energy Supercross is the latest official release from Milestone in Partnership with Feld Entertainment Inc. Their aim is to allow gamers to experience what is considered by many to be the most competitive and highest profile off-road motorcycle racing championship in the world. Now, right up front I want to be honest with you all and say I’m not an avid fan of the sport, I do enjoy Speedway, so I have an appreciation for bike racing. But, it did mean that going into this review my knowledge base of the riders and tracks was pretty limited. Monster Energy Supercross is available on all major gaming platforms (PS4, XBox One, Switch & PC). This review however is being done based on the PS4 release. So as someone who wasn’t a fan before playing the game, the question is did I...

Sociable Soccer Review – The Beautiful Game?

For gamers of a certain age there will be fond memories of playing a simple but awesome football game called Sensible Soccer back in the 90s.  For me it was THE number one game to play with my friends on our Atari ST. Fast forward to now and Jon Hare who was the designer behind my favourite game back then has reappeared on the gaming scene with Sociable Soccer.  Made by Tower Studios and Combo-Breaker, Sociable Soccer is currently available on Steam Early Access for £14.99. With my misspent youth seemingly like a distant past I was more than happy to get my boots back on and take to the pitch!  Was Sociable Soccer going to win a trophy or go for an early bath? Gameplay Sociable Soccer has a simple, easy to navigate menu currently displaying as "Boss mode", "Trophies", "Options" an...
