Roots of Pacha – Nintendo Switch Review

Stardew Valley meets prehistoric times in Soda Den’s debut game, Roots of Pacha. Become part of a close-knit Stone Age community, discover new “ideas”, plant new crops, befriend animals, and help your village develop through the period in the simple but compelling farming simulator game. Roots of Pacha can be enjoyed alone or you and your friends can explore the early days of civilisation with up to four-player co-op. Prepare for your Right of Passage After a dispute with publisher Cryvito, Roots of Pacha was delisted from Steam. It has taken some time, but Soda Den finally released Roots of Pacha for PC and Mac on April 25th of this year, with its Playstation, Switch, and Xbox landing on the 28th November. I’m in my cozy gaming era right now and was super excited to pick up Pacha on ...

Three Minutes to Eight – PC Review

Developers, Chaosmonger Studios, aim with their latest game, Three Minutes to Eight, to give us gamers "an ever-evolving gaming experience, mimicking a borderline state of mind that teeters on the edge of consciousness, where everything is possible yet remains elusive." An exciting and bold mission statement. The game was released on 31st October 2023, available on all consoles and PC. I got the chance to play through the game recently.  Time to get down to business Three Minutes to Eight is a side-view pixel-art adventure/mystery where the gamer can either point-n-click or use a controller to move around. These kinds of games were so well made and popular that they've stood the test of time. This game goes to show the style and genre aren't going anywhere soon. Do you enjoy these kinds ...

The Invincible – PS5 Review

The Invincible is a narrative-focused adventure developed by Starward Industries and published by 11 Bit Studios (Children of Morta). Starward are a Polish studio delivering its debut game with staff having worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The game is based on Stanislaw Lem's 1964 novel of the same name. Set in the distant future, you play Dr Yasna who ends up on the desert planet Regis III suffering from amnesia. The game has elements in common with Firewatch but also movies such as Annihilation & Arrival when it comes to tone and narrative. The game also has elements of sci-fi exploring sims Subnautica but firmly on dry land. The Invincible is available now on PS4 & PS5, Xbox S/X and Windows. The Invincible holds its own in this sci-fi adventure I wasn't fa...

Cuisineer – PC Review

Through my journey in Cuisineer I've learned some things. Food is very paw-erful and if you know what you're doing, you'll be the cat's meow. Don't worry, there'll be more cat puns.  Cuisineer is an Action, Adventure, RPG developed by perfectly named BattleBrew Production and published by Marvelous Europe and XSEED. I originally heard about this game through Steam Next Fest in June and fell in love with the demo. This hidden gem of a game has been the cat's meow ever since and it's well earned.  The love and support the community shows for this game before it's even released is both impressive and heartwarming. The devs even made a Twitter for Pom, the protagonist of the game in 2021 showing off fan-made content. Gameplay The story of Cuisineer starts with Pom returning home after rec...

Laika: Aged Through Blood – PC Review

Forget about your Spider-People, Italian plumbers, and various camouflage-clad soldiers because there's a game that may have slipped under your radar this month. Laika: Aged Through Blood, developed by Brainwash Gang and published on PC by Headup Games, was released via Steam on October 19th. Billed as the very first motorvania, an alternative to the Metroidvania genre alluding to the transportation method of main character Laika, it certainly warrants a closer look. Hunting Birds Laika Boss I'm not sure how I didn't have Laika on my list of games to keep an eye on this year, but the trailer sold me on giving it a go when it landed in the TC inbox. The hand-painted art style depicting a bleak, post-apocalyptic old-western-inspired world, being traversed by motorcycle, paired with a beaut...

Silent Hope – PC Review

My wife peaked over my shoulder to see that the cow and chicken seemed familiar to her. When I told her that was the old Harvest Moon chicken and cow, she also pointed out something else. She saw Rune Factory in the gameplay and asked about if it had a romance option. I told her and she looked at me like it was my fault.  Silent Hope is an Action Hack and Slash RPG that was developed by Marvelous and published by XSEED Games. It felt like they were keeping this game under wraps since there was never any mention of the game. The game's initial release was Oct. 3rd and available on the Nintendo Switch and Steam.  There aren't many details that I can find about the production of Silent Hope or any issues when it started.   For all of the silence in this game, I'm amazed there isn't a hill...

Jusant – PS5 Review

Jusant, from Life is Strange creators Don't Nod, answers the question "What if the climbing from games like Uncharted, Breath of the Wild, and Horizon: Forbidden West, was the central mechanic a full game?" It's due to release on October 31st on PS5, Xbox Series and Steam. Roughly pronounced joos-zon in French, Jusant is a maritime word referring to a receding tide. As we'll see as we explore the game more, this is a very central theme to the story and history of this world. Ooh, Aah, Jusant A Little Bit Our story begins as the nameless protagonist is walking across an arid desert. The landscape is littered with the decaying carcasses of dozens of sea vessels. We understand immediately that at some point, this was a vast ocean, now somehow reduced to bone-dry seabed. After a title ...

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty – PS5 Review

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is a massive expansion for the main game Cyberpunk 2077 released by game developers CD Projekt Red on 27th September. The expansion now offers up a whole new standalone story to that offered up in Cyberpunk 2077. I got a chance to take a closer look at the expansion and all it has to offer. Be warned, minor spoilers follow: Taking Liberties I grew to love the Cyberpunk 2077 universe fully only in recent months. Initially, I was deterred at first by its rough patch on release. Having followed its roadmap to its present state I'm now eager to play this new expansion. How can it improve and move the story forward? What new things has the developers included in it? If you are the same and love the game comment below! GAMEPLAY This addition to the Cyb...

Paw Patrol World – PS5 Review

Paw Patrol World, by devs 3DClouds and published by Outright Games, has recently landed on all consoles and PC. For all adults with young children, you will be very familiar with not only the theme tune but also the characters' names! "Dad, I can be all the Paw Patrol!" Together they help keep Adventure Bay safe from Mayor Humdinger's dastardly plans as well as undertake rescue missions. Paleo Pines – Switch Review

Paleo Pines by Northern Ireland-based devs Italic Pig, is a single-player role-playing game set in a time with cute dinosaurs. Available on console and PC, I have been playing, along with my 6-year-old, on the Nintendo Switch. Roarsome Entertainment? With a nod to elements from Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon and Pokemon, would we find this dino-driven social/management sim as captivating? Let's take a look! Gameplay As with most traditional adventure games you begin by creating your character. Here we have a fairly normal but not over-the-top palette to select from including skin tone, eye colour, hairstyle, etc as well as a selection of clothing. You will notice that to keep inclusivity you cannot set a sex and Italic Pigs have described the character as non-binary. My son being 6 ...
