Tech on Tech… Legions of Tech
Back again with another roguelite. It wouldn’t be a new month without a new one to explore. I spent a lot of time playing with LEGOs when I was a kid, so TerraTech Legion looks right up my alley. So how did it play out? Check out my review below.

Gameplay
TerraTech Legion is a bullet hell style roguelite. Much like in TerraTech and TerraTech Worlds, this version also puts you in the seat of a modular vehicle. This time it is up to you to fight back against a powerful AI overrunning the galaxy. Gather blocks, weapons, and additional upgrades, arranging them however you see fit to defeat swarming waves of enemies.
You have four different techs to choose from in TerraTech Legion. Each has their own style of chassis, starting weapon, and unique perk. As you progress through the planets and unlock the various blocks for each, the blocks enter the pool of possible rolls for all characters. What you use is completely up to the build that suits you.
Between trips to the planet’s surface the usual common roguelite mechanics are found. Each tech has their own passive upgrades. Upgrades are unlocked in tiers and are purchased using credits found in runs, which are also character specific.
Some Highlights
At the end of each mission (or run), TerraTech Legion provides a breakdown of just about every stat you could want. This includes a timer comparing how much time you spent in combat versus in the build menu. I admittedly have probably spent at least five times more overall in the build menu than fighting the enemy AI. There’s just so many ways to put things together!
Leveling within the run and picking up crates and blocks dropped by certain enemies are the source of new parts for building. The crate from leveling is always a weapon whereas the other crates can contain a certain set of items based on the kind of crate. Unfortunately the other crate types are random (with seemingly more block crates toward the start), so trying to get specific crates for a certain build isn’t quite possible. Yet another reason to just go with the flow and cobble together the best you can.

Graphics & Audio
For this review I’m playing mostly on the PC. I’ve also spent a fair amount of time with TerraTech Legion on the Steam Deck. They run incredibly well on both, with PC having the advantage when it comes to crisp models. The 3D format and top-down camera view work well with the fast and sometimes overwhelming movement across the screen. The block building menu also translates perfectly from what you’ve built to driving it around in the game.
Ballistic and energy weapons alongside explosions are prominently heard while driving through seas of robots. The music tracks are a bit different than what I would expect though. I noticed a couple of tracks in particular sounded vaguely familiar. As if I had heard a similar theme in 8-bit format long ago… but I digress. They still keep you chugging along as the waves come.
Longevity
I am spending an exorbitant amount of time playing TerraTech Legion. Even more than I was spending in Grind Survivors. The game currently has four planets with three difficulties each, and a survivor mode that I have yet to unlock. Considering how this games seems to be another easy to pick up and hard to put down, I’m guessing the longevity will be pretty high. Especially true if you really enjoy just the random building aspect like I do.

Final Thoughts
Bring me back to my childhood by letting me build the most ridiculous and deadly vehicles I can. Then keep me engaged by turning it into a bullet hell roguelite? If this sounds good to you, then TerraTech Legion is right up your alley too. With vehicular combat at breakneck speed, simple progression and endless builds, this one is another Thumb Culture Platinum Award in my book!
