Back in May we got our hands on two of the new Minecraft REST and Holdem from Exg Pro. Now we’re back with two of the Squid Game Mini Cable Guy Holdem products. Not just any Squid Game characters though, the iconic Young-Hee and of course a Circle Guard.

A Player Is Not Allowed To Stop Playing.

If you’ve ever looked at your tech and thought “Hmm, no, it needs more dystopian survival thriller vibes” then these could be the functional collectibles for you! Let’s take a look at just what you get with each Holdem.

I’m going to start this review with the packaging. Well, it is the first thing you get hands on with! As the Squid Game Mini Cable Guy Holdem products are all officially licensed of course the box art looks amazing. It’s on brand and easily recognisable which is great. What’s not so great is trying to get the Holdems out of that very same packaging. There are instructions on the side and yet I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to twist or tear a section first. Even then the “tear here” perforated cardboard was not so easily undone. The same with getting the figure out of the packaging. They seemed almost glued in. Whilst it does mean you know the Holdems are secure, they’re maybe a little too secure. All in all it’s a bit frustrating when all you want to do is get your new figure!

The base of the packaging also doubles up as a display podium. However the appeal of the Holdems for me is their small size, the bonus being I can store stuff on them. Having a cardboard surrounding does seem a little redundant, and dare I say gimmicky.

I’m sure the instructions to Bop-It are clearer then this…

Moving on from my packaging trauma, lets get to the good stuff. Just in case you don’t actually know what a Cable Guy Holdems is, it’s basically a scaled down version of their REST controller holders. This small holder is, you guessed it, intended for your smaller gadgets, such as earbuds or a smartwatch but they can also be used for phones. And when I say this is a small holder it really is, coming in at about 4″ tall.

Whilst it is small, make no mistake this does not impact the quality. Both the Squid Game Mini Cable Guy Holdems I tested felt sturdy,. They must have been to survive the way I manhnadled them out the box! When in use never once did I feel as though my phone would fall, nor my earbuds. Which was a worry when I tested the Minecraft Piglin Holdem previously! I would say the greater surface area of Young-Hee and the Circle Guard’s hands helped with this.

Who will be the winner of this game?

Let’s talk about the look of these functional figures then. The moulding on them is done really well, I scanned all around and found no extra bit of plastic or divots. Much can be said of the colouring too. Quality licensed products has obviously been high on the agenda here. The interlocking bases are a nice touch as it the characters do lend themselves to being collectibles. There are only so many controller holders you can have (nobody tell my partner that), but these things are a different kettle of fish. They’re easy to display and look good when posed together. They’re just begging for you to complete the set.

No movement from these two.

Final Thoughts

There isn’t really anything technical to go into here. Once again Exg Pro have created Cable Guy products that are functional and great for fans. I stand by my statement of the Holdem line being more geared towards being display figures, with a bonus feature of being able to hold things. Rather than that being their primary function as their name would suggest. However, the price point of around £20 makes it worth it. My only real gripe was the packaging, and as that’s going to be recycled, it isn’t a real issue.

I give the Squid Game Mini Cable Guy Holdem products the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
