The Razer Blackshark range has gone through a bunch of iterations since its first release back in 2021. The Blackshark V2 was released in 2020, and now there is another new version. I present to you the Razer Blackshark V3 Pro headset! Starting from £249.99, this headset promises some great things, along with some familiar features. Does it offer enough for you to stump up an extra £50 from your hardware budget? I will aim to help you work that out.

Now I hold my hands up, I have had this headset since a few days before it’s launch on 29th July. The reason it’s taken until now to actually put this review live? I wanted to ensure that I put it through some very rigorous testing, despite it being the school summer holidays!

Design Features

As with all Razer headsets, you are greeted with a whole host of fancy buzzwords. Great acronyms, all while giving you a taste of what’s new. The Razer Blackshark V3 Pro is no different. With a similar design to the V2, it feels familiar, but there is something that feels a little bit more premium this time. As though Razer is trying to justify the price tag. Personally, I love how the Blackshark range feels and looks. Giving that true esports look. With no RGB on the headset, it’s streamlined, it’s demure, it’s quality.

Green means go!

For comfort, Razer have opted for a dual-layer memory foam cushion to go around your ears.  Featuring a hybrid of leatherette along with a breathable, moisture-wicking fabric to ensure that on these summer nights, you don’t get sweaty ears. There is nothing worse than having to take a breather from the Battlefield 6 Open Beta just because you have hot ears. Bringing a leatherette headband as well as a strong and sturdy reinforced build, giving the headset strength for those times when they might take a little knock or tumble.

Audio Time

Breaking up the design features, I felt it was time to give you the lowdown on the sound. In short, the sound quality of the Razer Blackshark V3 Pro is incredible. If you enjoy the soundstage that Razer brings to the market, then these are what you’ve been looking for. Featuring the latest Gen-2 Triforce Bio-Cellulose 50mm drivers. Being able to push natural and powerful sounds from the incredibly light diaphragms. The headset delivers all those footsteps that you need, as well as the roar of the engine. I paired my testing with an upcoming review of the Thrustmaster T598 Steering Wheel, and wow, the immersion level stepped up!

Featuring an increased magnet size, giving a 75% increase in magnetic field, gives punchier and more clarity to your sound. Along with a new driver plug, it gives less distortion. All of these new elements pair together to give an experience that I’ve not experienced outside of a £350-400 headset. Included is something new to me as well, 7.1.4 surround sound, giving you the ability to not only hear from which direction sound is coming from. Now it can replicate the elevation of where sound is coming from. This is impressive in games like Rainbow Six: Siege, where height is such an important part of the game.

Talky talky time.

Whatever game you are intending on playing, you can bet there will be a pro-tuned profile for it. Ensuring that your game is at the top priority. Making all those footsteps easy to hear, as well as all the rest of the environmental sounds nice and immersive. All you need to do is check out the Synapse app and get downloading. You can save up to 9 profiles directly to the headset, so wherever you are, and whatever game you are playing, you can have something ready to go at the push of a button.

Time To Talk

With a detachable Hyperclear Full Band 12mm microphone, you can be reassured that your teammates will hear you loud and clear. This gives clarity to your voice that is second to none. I absolutely love how the Razer Blackshark V3 Pro makes my voice sound, to the point where I found myself not cringing when listening back to game clips.

Featuring hybrid active noise cancellation, ensuring that any noises in your background are filtered out for that esports quality sound. Load up the Synapse app and you can customise through 4 different levels of ANC, just to find that perfect configuration for your setup.

Configuration

As with most Razer products, you can customise them in a number of ways via the Synapse app. From profiles to EQ, it is all in there; you can even configure the roller button on the headset. Whether you want it to boost the footsteps audio on a particularly tense game of Search and Destroy. Or if you want to change your mic monitoring level. It can be customised to your perfect setup. Personally, I had this setup to change the Game-Chat balance. Making sure that your audio balance was just perfect. Especially when playing something loud like Call of Duty.

With simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth connection, you don’t have to take the headset off if you get an important phone call. However, I did find that the sound quality changed if I was connected to both.  With a 2.4 GHz connection powered by the Razer Hyperspeed Wireless Gen-2 dongle, you get an ultra-low latency, meaning that your sound is as pure as it can be on a headset.

Final Thoughts

So what does all this mean? Well, what it means is that the Razer Blackshark V3 Pro is an incredible headset. With a whole host of new features that elevate the previous iteration to a level I didn’t think possible. Featuring incredible audio as well as comfort for those long sessions, it ticks so many boxes when I look to purchase a new headset.

Really, the only question that you need to ask is whether you want to spend the circa £250 on the headset. Personally, I think the price is justified. If you can’t justify it, then definitely check out one of the other headsets in the Blackshark V3 range . Or read our review of the Razer BlackShark V2 X Quartz to help you out!

I am happy to give the Razer Blackshark V3 Pro headset the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.
