Razer, Razer, Razer, what are you doing to our bank accounts? If you could stop releasing awesome pieces of hardware that would be excellent. What’s that? No?! Fine! If you wondered what they’ve done this time, all I will say is Blackshark V2 Pro.

Gimme an R, Gimme an A…You Know The Rest

Razer has added to the Blackshark V2 line, and the addition is glorious! So let’s dive in and find out if the new Blackshark V2 Pro is the headset for you!

Headset

First up, let’s talk about the rest of the V2 lineup of headsets and just why you should save your pennies up and get the Pro. Starting at the low end of the line, and low by no means that it isn’t worth a purchase. You have the V2 X, with a fixed microphone and TriForce 50mm Driver. It gives a decent performance for its £59.99 price tag. Moving up the list you have the V2 X USB, which replaces a 3.5mm analogue jack for a USB Type-A to plug into your computer. You get a slightly different microphone, but nothing to write home about. This one also has a £59.99 price point.

Simplistic, yet refined

Next up in the V2 line is the V2 Hyperspeed. This has an upgrade in surround sound to THX Spatial Audio. It also has wireless connectivity and TriForce Titanium 50mm drivers. Although with the price point of £129.99 it might be out of some peoples’ budgets. Finally we move on to what we are checking out today: the Blackshark V2 Pro headset. This headset has the same drivers as the Hyperspeed, the same surround sound, and the same Hyperspeed Wireless tech for connecting. The only difference seems to be a removable microphone. So what makes these special? To answer that we need to take a look at what else is going on in those earcups.

Features

A few of the stand out features were mentioned above, but let’s have a little look around the whole of the headset. First up the chassis. With a set of ultra-soft flowknit memory foam cushions, you will stay cool even through the hottest of summer play sessions. These landed with me just as a heatwave hit and my ears were very grateful! Add to that a steel-reinforced headband and sliders giving you increased flexibility and strength. Meaning if you’re prone to throwing your headset in bit of rage, I mean passion, your headset won’t be worse for wear. The headset itself also has an optimised clamping force and profile to allow for maximum noise isolation. This also helps the noise bleed for those around you.

The Blackshark V2 Pro boasts Razer’s best microphone, it’s Hyperclear Super Wideband Mic. This microphone covers a wider frequency range. Allowing for even more detail to be picked up from your voice, ensuring that every communication is clear and precise. In addition to the great microphone, you also have incredible drivers for pushing the noise to your ears. With the Razer TriForce Titanium 50mm Drivers, yes, I know it’s a mouthful, you get crisp audio from the titanium-coated diaphragms. Using a patented design it divides the drivers into the highs, mids and lows. Ensuring that everything happening on screen gets the clarity it deserves when it hits your ears.

I thought they looked good, from the outside…

Functionality-wise, the Blackshark V2 Pro boasts a modest 70 hours of battery life. Potentially more impressive is the ability to get 6 hours’ worth of charging out of just 15 minutes plugged in. Perfect for when you have a last minute gaming night and you need a quick charge.

Profiles

One of the standout features for me, is the Pro Tune Audio Profiles. In a nutshell, these are profiles aimed at FPS games, which provide you with the maximum information for ultimate immersion. You customise your profiles in the easy-to-use Razer Synapse app. You can then save them to the onboard memory so that you have your profiles no matter where you go. So whether your game is Fortnite or Call of Duty, you can rest assured that your headset won’t let you down.

In Action

Right. You’ve read all the stuff above, now you want to know how they actually perform? Well honestly, these are up there with some of the best headsets I’ve tested. There is only one thing that is stopping the Blackshark V2 Pro from replacing my Arctis Pro Wireless headset. This is the fact that the Arctis headset has certified discord drivers and a quick on the fly ability to change the chat to game mix. Literally if Razer could do the same thing, I would use this headset every day. It is comfortable, has great audio, and even performs well when listening to music. Looking good me!

Final Thoughts

Yes, they are pricey. Can you really put a price on quality though? Some would say very much so. But when you spend hundreds of hours playing games each year, you want something that is going to stand the test of time. Whilst we haven’t been gaming in these for that long, I can tell that they will be as sturdy in another years time as they are today.
