We’re big fans of Razer here at Thumb Culture. And I guess they like us too as we got sent the Razer BlackShark V2 X to review. Now regular readers will know that we covered the BlackShark V2 Pro back in August last year. Which may lead to questions on why we are reviewing this one? I have one word in answer. Pink. Ok, so it’s not just that it’s pink, it’s also the newer BlackShark model, but mostly I’m here because it’s pink!
Pretty In Quartz
Unlike it’s V2 Pro sister, the BlackShark V2 X headset does not have a big price tag. In fact they’re available on the Razer website for £60. And don’t worry, it’s not just available in this pretty pastel colour! You’ve got black, white and of course that iconic Razer green to choose from!

Design Features
I need to just put it out there that I love the design of the BlackShark V2 X. From the pretty pink, to the textured ear cups, to the grey details. It all comes together to make a really good looking headset. But you don’t just want to read about how good it looks. You want to know exactly what you’ll get for your money and what sets this above other headsets within the same price bracket.
First off it’s lightweight, coming in at just 240g. Comfort is clearly key here. The headset also has some thick padding around the headband and the memory foam ear cushions are made up of breathable fabric and plush leatherette. These ear cushions don’t just look or feel good too, they’re functional too. They have the very important job of fully covering your ears, which of course aids with noise cancellation. Combined with the closed ear cup, I barely heard anything from the real world.

Speaking of comfort, I’m one of those unlucky people that easily gets headaches if a headset is too heavy or from having them push against my glasses. I have not encountered that with this. And believe me I wore it a lot. From work meetings, to listening to music, to gaming, I put this thing through it’s paces.
Moving onto compatibility features. The box may state this was the PlayStation edition, I can confirm it worked across PC, Nintendo Switch and of course PlayStation 5. If you’re device has a 3.5mm jack it will work. Of course with it being a wired headset you don’t have to worry about battery life either. Which is great for me as I constantly forget to charge everything! A worry for some may be the length of the wire, but it’s a decent length at 1.3metres.
Sound Quality
As this is a Razer headset you won’t be surprised to read that the BlackShark V2 X is packed with Razer TriForce 50 mm Drivers. For anyone who isn’t sure what those fancy buzzwords mean, this is basically just how the sound is produced. If you want to read more about what the TriForce drivers offer in terms of audio experience, check out more info on the Razer website.
The headset offers 7.1 surround sound, as long as you’re on Windows 10 64-bit that is. But even if you aren’t using that software, the sound quality of these headphones is really good. As I mentioned before I put these headphones through some big testing. From blasting out Sleep Token to listening intently in an important work meeting via Teams. One was a more pleasurable experience, I’ll let you decide which. But the sound quality was great. You know a headset is good when you feel the music on another level, or notice just how loud someone is breathing on in-game chat!

I didn’t just hear good with this headset though, I also sounded good. That may not be my finest writing but you can see what I was going for. The Razer HyperClear Cardioid Mic has a big name but it lives up to it. I had a few people say that my mic sounded a lot clearer then my previous headset mic. I’m putting this down to the fact that this mic has a big frequency range. 20 Hz to 20 kHz in case you were wondering. I’s also very clever in that has some noise cancelling magic to dampen ambient sounds such as mouse clicks, or those pesky PC fans that like to sound like they’re preparing for flight when loading in Call of Duty shaders!
Final Thoughts
Look can we all agree, we want things to look aesthetically pleasing but also be of a good quality?! I have long pined after a pink headset that wasn’t victim to pink tax and actually sounded good. Too many times have I been burnt by things looking pretty but the sound quality being subpar. Thank you Razer because the BlackShark V2 X in Quartz does just that.
Overall for £60 you really can’t go wrong with this headset. Whilst I know £60 is a chunk of money and may be out of some people’s budgets, I would say if you’re looking for a good headset with decent sound and mic, and you don’t mind it being wired, buy this. It’s a great headset. In fact I didn’t appreciate just how good it was until I got to testing another headset. But more on that later!
The Razer BlackShark V2 X gets the Thumb Culture Gold Award from me.
