With 2025 less than a month away, it’s time to get excited about the games releasing next year. This list is but a fraction of the titles I have on my radar — next year is shaping up to be another extraordinary year for gaming. Let’s dig in to my most anticipated games of 2025.
The list below is in no particular order.
Wanderstop
Wanderstop is the debut game from indie studio Ivy Road. On the surface it’s a game about running a tea shop, gathering resources, and serving customers. Deeper than that, though, it’s a story about how you can’t force healing from trauma by using escapism purely as a means to an end.
With Stanley Parable’s Davey Wreden on design duty, it’s safe to say not everything will be as it seems. Hopefully we can help Alta find peace and comfort, and learn something for ourselves along the way.
Wanderstop is due to launch on PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 5 in early 2025.
Unbeatable
Hand-drawn anime-inspired visuals and rhythm mechanics collide in this narrative adventure from D-CELL GAMES. UNBEATABLE takes place in a world where music is illegal, but you’re here to do crimes.
Featuring a narrative mode and an arcade mode, either of which that can be played to unlock a double-album’s worth of music, UNBEATABLE is sure to appeal to fans of both playing styles. There’s also acoustic and remix versions of the songs to unlock, providing even more content. Backers on Kickstarter and Slacker Backer eventually raised enough funds to unlock online multiplayer, and a roguelike mode, too. I’m interested to see how that works.
UNBEATABLE has no concrete release window yet, but we’re expecting to see it in 2025 on PC (via Steam), PlayStation and Xbox. There’s also a very highly rated demo available on Steam.
Usual June
Finji are a development studio and publisher synonymous with quality indie games. Previous titles include Wilmot Works It Out, Night in the Woods, and Tunic. Their next project, Usual June, looks set to continue that association.
Play as June as she works to uncover the conspiracy of Far Harbor’s dark history and stop an existence-ending cataclysm. June won’t be alone, though, as she’s accompanied by new friends — both living and otherwise.
I love the look of Usual June, with the visuals reminding me of Sony’s Spiderverse films at times. The combat also looks particularly satisfying, with melee elements, projectiles, and an invincibility dash. Usual June is currently only slated for PC (via Steam).
Hades II 1.0
I completely fell in love with Hades when I started playing it in late 2021. I was therefore very excited to see Supergiant Games make Hades II their first ever sequel. This follow-up title launched into Early Access in May 2024, and I have been diligently avoiding it since, happy to wait for the eventual 1.0 release.
I’m trying even now to avoid researching too much into Hades II for fear of spoilers. Suffice it to say, if you’ve played the first game, you can expect more of the same from the sequel. Quick responsive combat, a deep narrative experience, and memorable characters.
The Early Access version is available now on PC (via Steam and Epic Game Store) having received a huge update in October. The full 1.0 release should be due in the first half of 2025 if, like me, you prefer to wait until then. Either way, death to Chronos.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight: Silksong, one of my most anticipated games of both 2021, and 2022. Perhaps third time is a charm? The Silksong community knows only pain, waiting for over 5 years so far since the 2019 reveal, and suffering through a false release window from Microsoft in 2022. The wait cannot surely be much longer.
In contrast to the descent into Hallownest in Hollow Knight, this time you’ll guide Hornet up through a haunted kingdom as she ascends to its peak on a deadly pilgrimage. Help her to uncover the mysteries of her past and unravel a deadly thread that threatens the land. New additions to gameplay include quests, combat tools, and conversations.
If we finally get Silksong in 2025, it will be available on PC, Mac, and Linux (via Steam, GOG, and Humble Store), and Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Release trailer at The Games Awards, anyone?
That rounds out my 5 most anticipated games for 2025. What’s on your list?
