PlayWay S.A. has published another sim and once again I find myself in another occupation. You need your clothes cleaned and dried, well come check out my store in Laundry Store Simulator. Developed by Akhir Pekan Studio and released on 9th of December, it’s my job to make sure all the creases are out, and the game is clean to go. Wanna try it out for yourself? Then head over to Steam here.
No shoes, no shirt, but I still give service!
Gameplay
We get our laundry store, thanks to the investment of a certain not-so-subtle Banker. Literally his name. Now, with ten grand of in debt in our bank, we can start. Laundry Store Simulator gives you both a cheap washer and dryer to use at the start. Luckily, the tutorial is straight forward and after finishing each step; you are rewarded a decent amount of cash.
Washing clothes isn’t too hard, as you will have a four-step plan:
- Collect dirty clothes from clients, then place in a washer.
- Once washed, remove from the washer and stick into the dryer.
- After being dried, you will fold them.
- collect the readily dried and folded clothes and return to client.
There are some bonus steps you’re able to do to earn more money. One is ironing the clothes and the other is lint rolling clothes to remove fur/fluff. The fluff is visible straight away and a symbol of the lint roller will appear. Personally, I always do the bonus steps for extra cash even if I don’t need to. There is a variety of clothing, but the main two types I’ve dealt with are suits and regular clothes. The suits will need their own washer, which is purchased at the computer and will have a different basket.
Lighten the load with new hires and upgrades.
To make your life in Laundry Store Simulator easier, we can hire new employees to aid us. Alva will help by taking over the washer and dryer section while later on we can hire a guy named Tizack for ironing and folding. Like most sims, where you pay, I was happy that you can pay them thirty days early. After that, it might be best to use the auto pay feature.
Each hire is also upgradeable to better increase their efficiency. There are also “special” upgrades, but at the time of writing the game says these are coming soon. Other upgrades are also unlockable for the store and your tools. The tools you get are the aforementioned lint roller, a wrench, and mop. The store in Laundry Store Simulator is also upgradeable, with new rooms for further expansions. One of the first I got was the Coin Washers, thanks to the tutorial. Here, instead of customers making me do their washing, they do it themselves. This is just another way to get a nice cash flow. Some upgrades are only available after reaching a specific store rank, which is obtained by finishing a challenge.
Graphics & Audio
You know, the rodeo with simulators and Laundry Store Simulator is no different. Textures (excluding maybe the design of the old, cheap washing machines) are incredibly low detail. Shadowing is almost non-existent, and character models look incredibly dated and clay-like. Animations aren’t the smoothest, either.
However, I must give credit to the cheery music, and the amusing customer animations.
One includes standing inches from the washer, staring dead-pan into the abyss (aka wash cycle). Another is sitting cross-legged on the ground in front of the machine like they’re contemplating their life choices. Or my favourite, sitting in the aforementioned position while having their hands together in what looks like prayer.
Longevity
Laundry Store Simulator has a whopping seventy-five achievements to collect. However, they are more on the time-consuming side, with having you do 2500 clients use a coin washer. Honestly, since these types of games rarely have an end, it’s more down to personal preference on how long you enjoy the game.
Final Thoughts
My initial thoughts was that Laundry Store Simulator was a full game. But after looking over the in-game computer, the overwhelming amount of “coming soon” says otherwise. At least this gives me something to look forward to I guess. Laundry Store Simulator runs well. I’ve had no issues to appear. It would be interesting to see a multiplayer mode added but, not everything really needs it. After hiring people, the game basically plays itself, which does end up making it become stale after a while. I admit, I was thinking this was going to be a little meh, but it’s actually one of the more enjoyable simulators out there. Yeah, you still do the same mundane thing, but it doesn’t feel as much of a chore compared to others.
