After months of waiting on more information on what to expect from the Switch 2. We got given an hour of information. And boy bloody howdy not only were we fed, I felt like I was at a buffet after all those reveals. Not only did they show and tell us about these updates, but game titles we didn’t know about. Especially for my Skong siblings who can honestly stop being deniers and become believers again.

Welcome to the Switch 2: Magnetic Boogaloo! CAUTION: We’ve hit code silk.

So, after much rumors and many predictions we didn’t know if we should trust or not. The Switch 2 Direct was set free to the world to watch and enjoy. With a few visual hiccups that you had to be there to witness. But, let me go ahead start with the star of the show being the Nintendo Switch 2. I will only cover the things we don’t already know about from just looking at it or learned about in January.

They made some honestly amazing improvements to this console. From the way the joy-cons using magnets to stay on the console. Having the capabilities to use them as mice opens the doors to more games like the point n’ click genre to be on there. Yet, the fact that we might accidently release the joy-con from it’s housing.  To upping their graphics to not only support 4K, but even run games at 120 FPS!

Though the fact that they’re using an LCD screen and not OLED after the last switch seemed odd to me. While watching the direct with friends, when the FPS being 120, some noted that they can finally play the Pokemon games now. They’ve even improved the dock itself to keep the console from overheating. They’ve also improved the mic and speaker qualities when in handheld mode and 3d audio included.

With the Switch 2’s upgraded hardware and appearance, even the games from the Switch are getting a boost. They demonstrated with Super Mario Party Jamboree having new features and mini-games that include the new Switch 2 Camera accessory. Which they also showed off the new GameChat that looks like as if Discord got added to the switch itself. Showing their crazy amount of features that GameChat will bring to Switch 2 owners to connect with friends and family.

Before we move on to the rest of the direct about their games, they revealed to us that it will release on June 5th. So, we’ve got 2 months to save up and get that Mario Kart World bundle when pre-orders open up. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t end up being like the Wii or Switch day one release when finding one felt just like hunting.

Let’s talk about the first game that takes advantage of the Switch 2’s joy-con’s mouse capabilities. Drag x Drive on first glace gave me the vibe of Rocket League, but with wheelchairs. I do love the fact that everyone in my friend group are impressed and can’t wait to play this title. Yet, time will tell if this will be great or another ARMS.

I’m not going to lie; this was the best way to start this directly. Seeing not only they increased the rooster, but even the number of drivers in a single race is amazing. Add new courses and game modes like Knock Out Tour to the mix, just got everyone excited to play this on day one. They even added weather that can change and effect your race at anytime to keep us on our toes. I’m honestly can’t believe that not only can we do huge races, but can drive everywhere on any course.

You can take advantage this with Free Roam either by yourself or with friends. And the kicker to me about this whole thing, is the fact the character now have costumes they can change into. Having the skins from the mobile app appear on console feels amazing to see and one day use. We’ll have more info on April 17th in it’s own direct.

We’ll also be getting the Nintendo Gamecube classics available to us after a very long wait. With some of our favorite games coming to our hands like Chibi Robo, Soul Caliber 2 and FZero. They’re even releasing a Gamecube controller on day one. I’m curious if connecting four of those controllers will give us the sfx when they all hold the Z button.

Ok, this title legit came out of shadows and slapped us like no tomorrow. The Duskbloods’s trailer had me thinking this was Bloodborne 2 or something. But, I might as well be right since A) it’s From Software and B) it’s a Switch 2 exclusive! You read that right! Nintendo did was Sony already did with Bloodborne. Yet, I’m still going to get it and play the heck out of it in 2026.

Seeing the start of this trailer, I thought this was some new IP Nintendo was working on, but in fact it’s a new DK! They honestly gave Donkey Kong his own Super Mario Odyssey, but with the ability to destroy the entire terrain. Like, I’m all for this, but my gods it was, shall I say, very Banaza…I’ll show myself out.

I was going to save this for last, but I was to at least keep this in some kind of order. Especially what they showed for last in the whole direct. They showed some impressive titles that we all knew would be on here and even more content on other titles. Yet, for me it was five games in particular that really grabbed my eye and revived me. And those games are:

  • Deltarune Chapters 3+4
  • RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army
  • No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files
  • Professor Layton and the New World of Steam
  • MOTHER FLIPPING HOLLOW KNIGHT SILKSONG!

I honestly feel like these five games coming this year means my depression is going into a deep recession. Honestly, do you know the last time we’ve had a honest to gods Professor Layton game? And no, I mean with both Layton and Luke? It’s been since 2013 and gods did we need more puzzles with these two. Now, pardon me while I quote old creators on next sentence.

Professor! Professor!…I’M GOING TO THE MOON!

Now the way Nintendo chose to end this direct was by far the best I’ve seen so far. For those who don’t know about Kirby Air Ride, please I implore to either play it or watch videos of it. This game was the most fun and wacky Kirby game that I’m glad is getting a sequel. Kirby Air Ride released in 2003 and boy howdy did I enjoy playing this with friends on the Gamecube. With the added fact that I destroy them and their rider.

Listen, if you don’t know Kirby well enough or the map, you will get eaten alive….metaphorically in a sense.

I would cover more, but my energy levels are currently peaked and I need to lie down from all this delicious news we got. But hey, if you want to see the whole direct, it’ll be right below to watch, or hit up the Nintendo Youtube channel of you choice. Now, if you don’t mind, I have a trip to the moon.
