Are you looking for something to play with the family? Something with a great amount of nostalgia to play through on those lazy sundays? You should check out Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs Villains. It brings the fun of monopoly, without the worry that Dad is going to cheat! Thankfully the PlayStation is the banker!

You Can’t Use The Force Here

Available across all platforms, you’ll get to experience pinnacle moments in the Star Wars universe. All while being sat on your sofa playing a game with the whole family! If you’re a PS5 owner like me, you can grab the game straight from the PlayStation store for £25.

Gameplay

When you fire up the game you are greeted with your hosts, C-3PO and R2-D2. They deliver a great introduction to the game and also help you out throughout your time with Monopoly: Star Wars. There is a series of tutorials that you can play through, or if you’re like me, you can dive straight into the game and experience it first-hand. Starting the game, you get to choose how many Go events you play through. The standard is 8 which equates to around 30-40 minutes per game. Plenty of time to take over the galaxy!

Run Luke!

Next choose whether you are going to play solo play, or are you going to team up on 2v2 or 3v3? Once decided you then get to pick some iconic characters from the Star Wars universe. I went for Luke Skywalker and ended up teaming up with Leia. All chosen by the AI itself. Was it fate, or just pure luck? We will never know, although I have my suspicions that the Force was indeed in play here. Each character has their own hero ability that you can activate through the game. Luke had the ability to call in Wedge Antilles to come and land on a surrounding space, which then allowed you to take ownership of that space.

With a simple game mechanic comes a relaxed gaming experience that is just perfect for families. Especially those that enjoy the Star Wars Universe as well.

Graphics & Audio

Monopoly: Star Wars is a gorgeous-looking game. It looks just like a Clone Wars episode, except this time you are getting involved. When you start the dynamic Go events, you get greeted with little animated snippets from the films. Watching the snowspeeders take down an AT-AT on Hoth was great.

Who are you choosing?

Each animation throughout the game, with the characters running along the board and then the middle of the board changing to represent the place you’ve landed on. All the game is just a smile waiting to happen.

The voice acting isn’t from the original actors, or at least they don’t sound like their usual selves. Let’s just say that it’s down to some compression the game has had to go through. It’s not obviously, but we can dream. Every other element of the audio is exactly what you’d expect from a Star Wars game, though.

Longevity

This one is a great one; there is so much to unlock in the game. Whether that’s new dice, or even new outfits for the characters, or even entirely new characters. Just enjoy the process of unlocking new stuff. From a time point of view, you can play this game for hours on end. I’ve had some great long sessions playing the game, and you can even flip the script and have a single chase around the board. It’s all entirely your choice.

There’s so much to see on the board!

Final Thoughts

If you want something chill and nostalgic at the same time then Monopoly: Star Wars is the game for you. Grab it before it’s too late. With all the fun of Star Wars, and all the fun of Monopoly you really cant go wrong.
