The LOVE sculpture by Robert Indiana is recognised around the world as an iconic symbol of the pop-art era. Today is the international day of love aka St Valentine’s Day. And what better LEGO set to be sharing with you all today, then the LEGO Art LOVE (set number 31214). The set is available now from the LEGO website and will set you back £69.99.
L is for the way you look at me
Did you know this iconic art piece is actually celebrating it’s 55th anniversary this year? That’s a lot of love. And Mani Zamani, LEGO art Designer agrees saying
“As a design professional and enthusiast, I have long admired Robert Indiana’s work. His artistic language has become synonymous with pop-art and LOVE in its many mediums represents this like no other.” It has been a personal honour to help bring this iconic and vibrant piece to life in LEGO brick form, to decorate the homes of pop-art and LEGO fans alike.”
Couples who build together, stay together
When I was asked if I would like to review the LEGO Art LOVE set, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. Not just because of how iconic this artwork is, but because it’s a set that can be built using the Build Together feature of the LEGO Builder app. The set also comes with two sets of instructions for those who prefer to build together with paper instructions! In our house nothing quite says “I love you” like building a new LEGO set together. And so armed with some nice homemade cocktails by Stu, we set out to have a great LEGO date night.

I wanna build you up, brick by brick
This is not a big build, with just 791 pieces. Which if building with another person, is approximately the same as building two to three Brickheadz each. As you’d imagine we could have built this faster had we not been talking, enjoying those aforementioned cocktails and occasionally singing along to our playlist. But actually this was what made the build even more enjoyable, it created a moment for us. Which when you throw in work, kids and running a website with a team of writers in your spare time, can be quite sparse!
For those interested in bag numbers and the like, there are nine bags in total. Bags 1 and 2 build the letter L. The E is built with bricks from bags 3 and 4. Which I had the pleasure of building. Whereas Stu built letter V using bricks from bags 5 and 6. The remaining bags (7, 8 and 9) then formed the letter O.

Technically this set could be built by all ages, but the LEGO Art LOVE set is sold as 18+. This is due to it being part of the LEGO Art range and it being a decorative build rather than a playset. When fully built the set is 25cm high, 25cm wide and 6cm deep with no moveable parts. It feels really solid when built, which is great. I have The Great Wave (31208) and The Starry Night (21333) LEGO Art sets. Both were enjoyable to build and are visually stunning. However, they both also feel as they could break at any minute. In fact I’m too afraid to hang them up so they sit on top of my living room Kallax with added clear bricks to sturdy them. I don’t have the same fear with the LEGO Art LOVE set.
Every moment we share together, is even better than the moment before
So how do I finish this review? As with any review it boils down to would I recommend this product. And yes, yes I would. It has great appeal to a broad range of people. From art lovers to LEGO newbies, this is a great LEGO set for everyone. And doesn’t that just sum up LEGO?
