Launching My Seven Year-Old Daughter into a Life of Piracy with Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves has done well since launch. It shot to the top of the GfK charts for most physical sales in the UK alone, someones chicken got stolen, and over a million players jumped into the game on launch day. It has also become one of my favourite pirate games, and so I grabbed my seven year-old Daughter and threw her into a life of piracy. Before I rabbit on about the Sea of Thieves experience. I'm usually laid back with video games and parenting. My eldest (7 y/o) is innocent enough to play Grand Theft Auto 5 just to go for a walk in the park with no weapons. She's cute enough to jump onto Red Dead Redemption and tend to the horses pretending to brush them. She avoids violence. And with me near, she'll throw the controller at me, narrowly missing my head if a situation that inv...

A Way Out Review – Witnessing Gaming Evolution

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was when I saw A Way Out at E3 2017. Not only did it look amazing with its appealing story-line, but also because I could actually FINALLY play a game with another physical person…. on…the…same…sofa! I haven’t done this properly since the Left 4 Dead series, but being able to play an actual story-based game with someone in the same room was, without question, a must-buy for me. A Way Out is a new co-op adventure from the director of the critically acclaimed Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Josef Fares (Yes, the Fuck the Oscars guy, my hero!) It’s developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts under their EA Originals program, but to make it clear, EA do not profit at all from this game. All proceeds go to the studio, who also retain ...

The Council, Episode 1 Review – How To Make Friends and Influence People

The Council is a wonderful episodic game like no other I’ve played, at least not for a long time. It’s brought to us by Big Bad Wolf Studios who developed the game, Focus Home Interactive who published it and with some help from Cyanide Studio also. The Council is available on PS4, Xone and PC so, you shouldn’t have too much of an excuse not to buy it but, of course, let me tell you why you should. Gameplay The Council is an adventure game that tells the story of Louis de Richet’s search for his missing mother, the leader of a secret society called the Golden Order. It’s 1793 so everyone talks like they actually have an education and wear very tight garments (No pants hanging around the buttocks here, oh no ) Louis’s search brings him to the private and grand island of Lord Mortimer wher...

Where The Water Tastes Like Wine Review – A Mesmerising Folklore Adventure

This gritty and dark American Folklore tale is by Dim Bulb Games and Serenity Forge. It was also founded by Johnnemann Nordhagen, co-founder of Fullbright and programmer on Gone Home and BioShock 2. Where the Water Tastes Like Wine is a surreal, poetic journey through American legend and fantasy, featuring delicious art and toe tapping original folk music. It spans a century of US history in the depression era, introducing players to a vast cast of drifters, fortune tellers, and magical creatures – and there’s Sting, yes the musician Sting. https://youtu.be/fnznWYE_wxc Gameplay Having lived for a while in the south, I loved hearing all the old stories, getting lost in the music and visiting vast places of cultural interest on my journeys around Mississippi, Tennessee and New Orleans, ...

The Sims 4 Review – Console Controls Conundrum

The Sims has always been a staple of my now limited gaming time. Whenever I get the chance I do tend to load up The Sims 3 and spend an hour or so continuing the mundane life I've created for myself. Now it seems I can do such mundane tasks on a console, with The Sims 4 on Playstation 4. I've never been a fan of The Sims on console, as to be fair it's much more suited to the keyboard and mouse than controller. But, I was willing to give this a shot and to see where it would take me. After the disappointment that was the Xbox 360 version of The Sims 3, I was extremely hesitant to play this. So much so that upon receiving my review copy, I put it off for as long as I could. I lasted about a week before surprising myself and popping the disc into my console. Usually at this point in the...

Fe is an action-adventure video game developed by Zoink and published by Electronic Arts under its EA Originals program. Zoink AB is a Swedish video game developer based in Gothenburg, Sweden. The company was founded in 2001 by Klaus Lyngeled, after he quit his job at Shiny Entertainment to start his own studio. You’ll be able to play it on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One but, for this review I played Fe on the Nintendo Switch. https://youtu.be/rYX3CjSgE4c Gameplay From the moment I loaded Fe and listened to the hypnotic beauty of the start menu, I knew that I was going to be taken on an emotional voyage of the soul. Fe is a delicate fox like creature who’s on a mysterious journey through a dark Nordic forest, filled with strange and wonderful creat...

Abandon Ship Lowers Sails and Launches Tomorrow

However those two are both Online. What about if you want a single-player experience? That's where Abandon Ship seems to be coming in.
