Gley Lancer Review

As is the case in the 90's, many games weren't available to us here in the UK, and Gley Lancer was one of them. Originally it was published by Masaya and released in 1992 on the Sega Mega Drive and got ported to the Wii Virtual Console in 2008 with a translation in the manual. Now nearly 30 years later, the 16-bit shooter Gley Lancer has reached western shores fully loaded and fully translated. Gley Lancer - A New Enemy Approaches Ratalaika who are known for publishing ports and indie titles are present while Shinyden handles the porting duties. Gley Lancer will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on October 15th, 2021. Shoot 'em ups were ten a penny back in the day, so what makes this one stand out? Read on to see what I thought of the...

G-Darius HD Review

Not to be confused with the Pop Idol finalist Darius (remember him?), or the one-hit-wonder Dario G, who coincidentally released their hit 'Sunchyme' in the same year, G-Darius is originally an arcade game released in 1997. A year later the original PlayStation received a port and that is how I played it back in the day. I say that, I played a demo of it. In fact, I still have the demo from Official PlayStation Magazine with Tombi on the front as the main featured demo. G-Darius - Ain't No Sunchyme Here I remember enjoying it but I could not find the game anywhere, and it is still quite uncommon today. Since then it has been released on a few compilations. G-Darius was the first in the Darius series to use 3D polygons, but the gameplay remained in 2D. By 1997 shoot 'em ups were getting t...

WRC 10 Review

It's Autumn, which means it's time for another WRC game. Often with annual releases, updates are usually quite minimal, but that's not always necessarily the case. WRC 10 builds upon the successes of the previous game which was already a huge leap forward from its predecessors. A lot of the game is largely the same, so we will briefly touch upon those points but focus more on the updates. WRC 10 - It's a Bit Dirtier Developed again by KT Racing and published by Nacon, the franchise is also set for another year. WRC 10 was released almost a year to the day since WRC 9 on September 2nd, 2021, and is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC, with a release planned for Nintendo Switch at a later date. Check out my review for WRC 9 here for an in-depth l...

Kena: Bridge of Spirits Review

After numerous delays since its announcement in June 2020, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is finally here. You can be forgiven for looking at it and thinking it is reminiscent of a Pixar movie. That's because the developers and publishers, Ember Lab started life as an animation studio. You may recall a fan film based on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask called Terrible Fate? That was Ember Lab, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits is their first game. Kena: Bridge of Spirits - The Path of a Spirit Guide is a Lonely One Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a game developed and published by Ember Lab and was released as a timed console exclusive on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on September 21st, 2021. If you bought the PlayStation 4 version, then you will also be entitled to a free upgrade to PlayStati...

Sonic Colours Ultimate Review

Time and time again it has been said that Sonic's transition to 3D hasn't been as easy as, say, a certain plumber's. For that reason, I didn't even touch a 3D Sonic game until 2011 when Sonic Generations came out. It's also no secret that I am a HUGE Sonic fan and my heart lies in his heyday on the Sega Mega Drive and I didn't want anything taking that away from me. I really enjoyed Sonic Generations, but apparently, I've missed out by skipping the Sonic Adventure games on the Dreamcast. Given the reputation, I think it's acceptable to approach new 3D Sonic games with caution. Sonic Colours Ultimate - Is it Heads and 'Tails' Above the Rest? But Sonic Colours Ultimate isn't strictly a new Sonic game. It's a remaster of Sonic Colours which was released in 2010 exclusively on the Nintendo W...

Tails of Iron Review

Tails of Iron first appeared on my radar a couple of months ago and there were a few things that drew me to it initially. Firstly was its unique 2D art style, it reminded me of medieval tapestries and I love the medieval era. Secondly, the narrator kicked in and he happened to be the one and only Doug Cockle. You may know him as Geralt of Rivia (or RATvia now?) from The Witcher series. Lastly was how interesting the story sounded with the characters. The game arrived and the description said "punishingly brutal souls-like combat". Just those words sent a shiver up my spine, as it has taken me many attempts over five years to get past the first boss in Bloodborne. Nevertheless, I remained undeterred and couldn't wait to get into it. Tails of Iron - A True Hero's Tale Tails of Iron is a...

Deathloop Review

Deathloop is finally here ladies and gentlemen.  Deathloop is a brand new IP developed by the brilliant minds at Arkane Studios who brought us Prey and Dishonored what can we expect? Well, the game director Ding Bakaba has described it as an "inverted Cluedo". It is essentially a big old murder mystery where you are stuck in a time loop played from a first-person perspective. It was originally announced at E32019 and again at the PlayStation 5 showcase in 2020 and scheduled to release later that year. But, after a couple of delays due to the ongoing pandemic, Deathloop is finally here. Deathloop - If At First, You Don't Succeed...Die, Die Again Since Microsoft acquired Zenimax Studios, the parent company of publishers Bethesda, they have honoured the agreement to make this a timed con...

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 Review

Just hear me out for a second. So, Sniper Elite and Hitman meet in a bar and have a few drinks together. It's all getting a bit amorous as the drinks are flowing. Soldier of Fortune is sitting in the corner thinking "I'm having some of this". They all go home together after many, many drinks. Nine months later, they give birth to a baby game. And that game is Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. The Sniper Ghost Warrior series has had more misses than hits over the years, so it doesn't hurt to take a little inspiration from other stealth games. Especially when you have been lingering long in the shadow of a certain other sniper-based game that I have already mentioned. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 - One Shot Too Many, Or Does It Hit The Mark? Polish developers CI Games has self-publishe...
