Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure – PC Early Access Preview

Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure is a relaxing, top-down casual game full of exploration and adventure. It hit PC Early Access on Steam in mid-August. Snowcastle Games (Earthlock) is responsible for both development and publishing. Though currently only available on PC, Snowcastle is planning to release Ikonei Island for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4/5, and Xbox One/Series X/S at a later date. It will also eventually be multiplayer. Explore, Adventure, Farm, and Decorate to make Ikonei Island your own! There are plenty of farm/life sim games out there. Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing are two of my favorites. Though Ikonei Island isn't necessarily a farm sim game, it definitely scratches the same itch as those others seem to. There seem like so many things you can do that there i...

Need For Speed Unbound PS5 Review

Need for Speed Unbound is the latest in the NFS franchise and is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S as well as PC. Developed by Criterion Software, famed for their Burnout games, and published by EA, will Unbound be a winner or one to drive by? NFS Unbound - The World is your Canvas With a bit of a twist when it comes to graphics, I know that many have been a bit wary of how this iteration of NFS looks. The ultimate question is a simple one; Does it work and play well? Gameplay While Criterion has made some of my all-time favourite arcade racing games such as Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Burnout Paradise (A title I have somehow managed to buy since its launch in 2008 on almost every platform along the way!) NFS Unbound has seemingly ventured into a very vibrant and graffiti-cultu...

Sweet Transit – PC Review

Developed by Ernestas Norvaišas on the MonoGame engine and published by Team17 we have Sweet Transit. Initially released in Q2 2022 and is available on PC Do Not Forget To Signal Join me as I check out just what Sweet Transit has to offer with its multifaceted city-building transport simulator elements. Gameplay At first glance, the game looks like any other sim title of its type. However, it goes a lot deeper and has quite complex mechanics. There are basic sim elements, such as resource collection and goals. Sweet Transit however completely throws you off by not allowing certain buildings to be built anywhere near each other. Now, this is clever in certain ways as it does force you to create trail tracks everywhere. After all, the game is all about the railroads. There is a tutori...

I'm excited to bring a bit of culture and pizazz into my ageing cities. It's time to play my Willy Fogg theme tune and go around the world! Gameplay Cities: Skylines is incredible, let's face it. Surviving the Aftermath: Shattered Hope – PC Review

Shattered Hope is the latest expansion for Surviving the Aftermath - the first being 'New Alliances'. The Shattered Hope DLC went live on Steam November 3rd 2022, building on the base game which launched October 19th 2019. Since quite a length of time has passed between the base game and the expansion, it makes you wonder what Iceflake Studios have been up to. Well, Shattered Hope brings a ton of new content, modifications and tweaks to the original game. Some of these are based on player feedback - it's refreshing to see a studio that listens to the players. Gameplay Surviving the Aftermath is a colony-sim survival game set in a post-apocalyptic future. Resources are scarce, colonists are valuable and danger is everywhere. The main goal is to create a sustainable settlement, bringing ba...

Rocksmith+ – PC Review

Ubisoft has revived its 2014 educational music title "Rocksmith" with its 2022 release Rocksmith+. The original release received some great press from those who took it up. I wonder just how much hype the new release will receive? Game On With Your Inner Musician! Since the original release of Rocksmith, I have always fancied checking it out. I always loved guitar hero, but this offered an opportunity to learn guitar rather than tap a few buttons. I couldn't wait to get my hands on Rocksmith+ when it was announced. Gameplay Rocksmith+ is an online subscription service brought to you by Ubisoft.  It's a service that not only takes you on a journey to knowing about your instrument, but to learning how to play some of your favourite genres of music. There are a few subscription types avai...

Let’s Build A Zoo – PS5 Review

Developed by Springloaded and published by No More Robots, we finally have a console release of the ever-popular pixel-sim title, Let's Build A Zoo. The game is available now across all platforms. Not Just Another Zoo Sim! I would not call myself a seasoned Zoo keeper, although with the number of sims around these days I could probably collect that accolade. However, Let's Build A Zoo stands out among the many out there due to its pixelated art style. Keep reading to find out how I get on. Gameplay On jumping into the game you are asked to choose your avatar from a selection shown on the screen. Secondly, you are asked to name your first Zoo. If you are indecisive like me this might take more than it should. You are then taken on a tutorial for this park management similar. This shows ...

Deadwater Saloon – PC Review

With its mostly positive reviews, Deadwater Saloon has landed on Steam. From the developers Creative Storm Entertainment and Tanglefoot and publishers CreativeForge Games and PlayWay S.A. Games, this single player building SIM lets you deep dive back in time to a wild west saloon, in a volatile frontier town. Get that rooting tooting cowboy out of my bar! I donned my ten-gallon and spurs and headed in to the old wild west to try and make a living in a saloon. Don't forget to check out the other reviews on the site and join in the discussion over on our community Discord! Gameplay Deadwater Saloon, as like many Sim games, starts off by creating your character and while you see your usual Name, Sex and Location, You get to select predefined attributes that set them up in a particular ...

Session: Skate Sim – PS5 Review

Developed by Crea-ture Studios and Illogika, Session: Skate Sim is the latest simulator title to hit consoles and PC. With a much-loved previous release, I wonder how this one will stack up. A Souls-Like Skateboarding Simulator Having never previously checked out a Session title, but being a Tony Hawks Pro Skater (THPS) fan I thought this would be a great title to check out. Keep reading to find out how I get on. Gameplay Jumping straight into the game you are greeted with an extremely brief tutorial. It provides you with a little know-how on how to get a couple of tricks down. This includes a simple ollie/nollie and a couple of grinds. Along with this you also learn how to control your board. Now, I say learn to control your board. However, after completing it multiple times I still s...
