Days of Doom – PC Review

I'm checking out a new post-apocalyptic rogue-lite, turn-based RPG developed by SneakyBox. Though Days of Doom was on mobile to begin with. Thanks to Atari's help, the developers could launch their game to a larger audience. The game is available now on Steam, Playstation, and Xbox for £24.99 and £26.99 on Switch. Days of Doom, Weeks of Struggle. Days of Dooms is set in a post-apocalyptic world where every day might be your last. There is a legend of a safe haven known as Sanctuary for those brave enough to make the trip. The player will manage supplies and make decisions during their travel. Are you able to find Sanctuary? Gameplay The rogue-lite elements in Days of Dooms look similar to Slay The Spire. The player will have a map showing them various icons, and at the end is a bos...

Mythforce – PC Review

Mythforce is a roguelike RPG co-op adventure brought to you by developers Beamdog. The game was released on 12th September 2023. They claim throughout their promotions online to have captured the essence of 80s daytime cartoons in game form. Sounds interesting. I recently got a chance to check it out for Thumb Culture. Check out the review below. A Love Letter to Retro Cartoons Roguelike games have become commonplace in game stores in recent years. Often they are endless AI-generated levels added to mix things up for the gamer. I've played a few games with this added and while it certainly is fun, I'm a bit on the fence. Mythforce is a good example of roguelike done well, however. What are your favourite roguelike games that you have played recently? Let us know in the comments. Gam...

RoboDunk – Switch Review

RoboDunk is a Roguelite fast-paced arcade basketball fighting game releasing on the PC and Switch. Developed and published by Jollypunch Games, a one-person team created by Gabreiele Libera, it bills itself as “the first Basketball roguelite”. RoboDunk – Nothing but net! JollyPunch’s mission is “to help friends smash each other with glee in the safety of videogames”. Their first game, Fly Punch Boom!, certainly met that criteria, and with RoboDunk, it seems that record is intact. So, let’s assemble our Dunkball teams and take to the arenas! Gameplay In the future, a great war has scarred the Earth and left only destruction. From the ashes, only one thing remains: the DUNK. Robodunk follows the matches and dust-ups of the teams of robots left in the wake of war, and their pursuit of...

Rightfully, Beary Arms – PC Early Access Preview

Today I'm going to be looking at a new rogue-lite title from a small indie development team. Rightfully, Beary Arms - the debut title from Daylight Basement Studio - is launching into Early Access on July 27th and I've been playing it over the past couple of weeks to take a look at what's on offer so far. The Right To Beary Arms If Rogue-type games are your thing, you can also check out some other titles we've written about here, here or here. Gameplay At its core, Rightfully, Beary Arms is a twin-stick bullet-hell rogue-lite. This means you're going to be facing waves of enemies through randomly generated maps until you win or get killed, rinse and repeat. It's a very marmite genre, but I really enjoy the gameplay loop of learning how to deal with different enemies, figuring out what ...

Your character will be attempting to clear numerous waves of enemies and fight bosses, all to be crowned champion and achieve their goals. Forget Hunger Games, welcome to the Thirsty Games A brief aside before we dive into Trouble Juice. Halls of Torment PC Preview

Halls of Torment is a fantasy horde survival roguelite. It is developed and published by Chasing Carrots (Good Company, Pressure Overdrive). You can find it out now in Early Access on Steam. Halls of Torment is Another Steam Deck Staple I've never really been into horde survival games. I held out a long time before finally picking up Vampire Survivors when it suddenly became so popular. But once I did get around to it I could understand why. Halls of Torment is looking like it will be the same way. I've already added it to my list of games that will always be available on my Steam Deck. The list isn't long yet, but any game that is as simple and entertaining to pick up for a quick session should be there. What's on your list? Gameplay Halls of Torment is one of the latest horde surviva...

Shardpunk: Verminfall – PC Review

Shardpunk: Verminfall is described by its developer as a "tactical squad-based survival strategy game, based in a steampunk, rat-infested world". Developed by Clockwork Pile and published by Retrovibe Games, Shardpunk: Verminfall is available for PC. It is available now and will set you back £9.99/$11.99 on Steam and will require 3GB of storage. Survival of the Rattest Now, I'll start off the same way the game does, by telling you that Shardpunk: Verminfall is not an easy game. Basically, you're going to die. After that, you'll start the game anew, with new skills and new characters to choose from. Then you'll die again. So on and so forth. I'm sure more competent players will be able to play the game all the way through with fewer restarts than I did. But not many will complete it wi...
