Ok, it’s no shock to anyone that I’m a bit of a fan of the Steelseries brand. So when they came and asked if we wanted to check out the Arctis Nova 7X Wireless headset, naturally, I jumped at the chance. Retailing at £179.99, this headset is on the higher end of a lot of people’s budgets, but does it warrant that price tag? Coming in three colourways, black, white and magenta, and being a multiplatform headset, it can be used on the PC, PlayStation or Xbox.

Sound of Substance?

Having recently reviewed the Nova 3X, we are already slightly familiar with the newer design of the headsets. What I wasn’t quite ready for was just how comfy this headset is. Let’s dive in and find out if that’s where it stops.

Design Features

Featuring a set of Neodymium Magnetic Drivers, giving you an incredibly detailed soundscape. Featuring immersive audio across whatever media you are consuming. I’ve watched films, played music, as well as played a number of different games. Each time I put the headset on, I am reminded just how much effort Steelseries put into their audio hardware.

Featuring over 200 pro EQ presets, giving you freedom to modify that soundscape perfectly to what you are doing. If you can’t find something that works for you, then just create a new one for yourself. You can even connect to a phone app and change on the fly. Swapping is practically instantaneous.

Being able to mix your game and mobile audio using the simultaneous connectivity means that you can connect to your game using the USB-C dongle and take calls, or even listen to music on your mobile via the Bluetooth connection. Usually, you have to stop one before listening to the other, but this is pure genius.

Comfort For Days

Featuring a 50 hour battery life, you will sometimes forget to charge the Nova 7X, but it doesn’t matter. Even if you happen to run out of juice, a quick 15-minute charge will give you a massive 6 hours of gameplay! Honestly, this impressed me so much. You can keep an eye on the battery level by checking the light indicator on the headset. Green is good, Amber nis ot so much. I never let it get lower than the amber light, though.

Being made of durable materials also gives weight to that battery life, with a steel headband with an elasticated band that rests on your head. It is comfortable for those long periods, and it doesn’t even leave a dent on your head. Then with all the controls at your fingertips, featuring a volume rocker, mute button, chat mix rocker and more. All within easy reach.

The final piece of the puzzle is the microphone, with a noise-rejecting mic reducing the keyboard clicks and background noise. It really does a great job of getting rid of all the unwanted noise when you are gaming. One test I always do with a new headset is the crisp test. I will get a packet of crisps and see if I can eat them quietly while playing online with other members of the TC team. Needless to say it worked perfectly. The mic is crisp, clear and loud, but don’t worry you can always edit the EQ for the microphone on the Nova 7X and get it just how you want it.

Final Thoughts

So what else is there to say about the Arctis Nova 7X headset? Not much to be honest, it is quite simply a great headset. It has become my daily driver, and I think that is why it’s taken me probably longer than it should have to write this.

Another massive thanks to Steelseries for sending this through and we can’t wait to see what you release next!
