Finding a pair of over-ear headphones that balances a realistic price tag with premium performance usually feels like a game of compromise. Soundcore has consistently challenged this narrative, and their Space 2 headphones push the envelope even further.

Aimed at everyday commuters, remote workers, and tech enthusiasts alike, this headset delivers robust active noise cancellation, impressive battery endurance, and unexpected software integrations.

Design

Visually, the Space 2 headset embraces a sleek, minimalist aesthetic that looks right wherever you wear it. The construction leans on lightweight, high-grade matte plastics supported by a durable internal metal headband, keeping the total weight at a highly manageable 261 grams. The Space 2 is available in jet black, linen white and seafoam green.

Soundcore paid close attention to ergonomics. I found that the ear cups were generously deep and lined with plush, slow-rebound memory foam wrapped in soft protein leather. This design easily accommodates larger ears without causing pressure points during extended sessions. When not in use, the ear cups rotate completely flat and fold inward, tucked neatly into a compact profile that fits easily into a backpack.

Rather than using finicky touch gestures that can go wrong in the rain, the Space 2 relies on physical buttons along the rims. The left cup houses the power/Bluetooth button and ANC toggle, right next to the USB-C charging port and a standard 3.5mm auxiliary jack. Inside the left earcup, there is also a small sensor that detects if you are wearing the headset or not and allows the sound to automatically play and pause. The right earcup has two buttons, one for the volume up/down and another that can be programmed via the app to call for voice assistants, AI translation and the much-loved nap mode. There is also a 3-microphone array to help provide crisp calls while blocking out wind and background noise.

Black, dome-shaped earcups with control buttons sit on a floral-patterned tablecloth. The cozy setting suggests a modern, relaxed atmosphere.
The matte finish with the glossy halo is quite eye-catching.

Sadly, there is no IP rating, and wearing these outside during rain or in the gym during a workout becomes a bit of a no-no.

Performance

Equipped with customised 40mm dual-layer diaphragm drivers, the default sound profile favours a warm, energetic thumpy bass response. While the out-of-the-box sound is pleasant, the real magic happens inside the companion app. By utilising the HearID calibration tool or tweaking the 8-band graphic equaliser, you can unlock crisp instrument separation, vibrant mid-tones, and sparkling highs. While there is Hi-Res audio, Android users also benefit from LDAC support, enabling high-resolution wireless streaming that extracts extra detail from high-quality audio files.

The adaptive, multi-stage active noise cancellation does an admirable job of isolating you from your surroundings. I found that it specialises in erasing low-frequency environmental hums, such as AC units or traffic, as well as heavily dampening ambient office chatter. It was pure bliss. The transparency mode works well for brief conversations or staying aware of your environment, although it does introduce a faint background hiss when your audio is paused.

AI Right In Your Ear

One of the most innovative aspects of the Space 2 is its integration of real-time AI tools, including an on-device translation feature that supports a massive variety of languages.

I tested the translation capability alongside my language-learning app Duolingo, and it was absolutely amazing. Instead of just staring at text prompts on a screen, the headset allowed me to bridge the gap with live audio interpretation. Hearing sentences translated dynamically in real-time right into your ears provided a highly immersive layer to language practice, as well as cheating. I am sorry Maria1974, I may have gained some ill-gotten gains in the Obsidian league, thanks to the headset that week.

Battery life is nothing short of exceptional. The headset yields a staggering 50 hours of continuous playback with ANC activated, and pushes closer to 70 hours with the noise-cancelling turned off. If you ever find yourself completely out of juice, a brief 5-minute plug-in via USB-C provides up to 4 hours of listening time. It was pretty awesome.

Finally, there is the Soundcore app to mention. While this is the hub of setting your equaliser, performing firmware updates, and assigning your buttons, I feel it is worth mentioning the Soundspace section. Here you will find a whole host of tracks to listen to. From sleep stories and meditations to brainwave audio, snore masking and white noise. There is definitely something for everybody here, and it is a great feature to just zone out to when life allows.

Conclusion

The Soundcore Space 2 stands out as a remarkably versatile audio companion. While the default audio tuning requires a quick trip to the app’s EQ to truly unlock its potential, the package as a whole is incredibly tough to beat. With elite battery longevity, deep comfort, and clever AI translation features that add genuine value to certain situations. This headset offers a distinct, forward-thinking experience. For anyone seeking top-tier features without the luxury tax, the Space 2 (RRP £130) is an incredibly smart investment.
