We get sent some pretty cool things to review here at Thumb Culture. This is the first of it’s kind though. Today I’ll be reviewing the So Chill Infinity Mini Fridge. Available from all good retailers for £45. Is this the missing element from your gaming set up? Let’s find out.

Fridgin’ Cool

I’ll be honest when I think gaming set-ups a mini fridge is not the first thing I think of. Although, I do remember the buzz when Xbox announced it’s Series X Drinks Cooler. So I shouldn’t have been that surprised when this landed on my desk! To be honest the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Afterall I can’t be the only one who has to time getting a drink top up or snack strategically between a win at Fortnite or when reaching a good safe bench in Hollow Knight.

Not quite so chill as it’s not plugged in yet.

Design

Upon opening the box of the So Chill Infinity Mini Fridge you’re greeted by the fridge itself, a USB Powercable, a User Guide and some stickers. These stickers aren’t just a fun little bonus, they are there to be used to customise you’re fridge. Now, this is when I knew I was not quite the target audience of this bit of kit. Not because I don’t like stickers, because oh boy do I love them, but more due to the design of them. Aside you’re usual “retro gamer” icons the stickers felt very tween and teenager orientated.

Moving on to actual look of the So Chill Infinity Mini Fridge. It’s a sleek enough design with the lights off, but the real wow factor comes when the lights come on. With 12 different LED light modes, there are a lot of options for getting this to fit in just right with the rest of your gaming peripherals. And of course as an added bonus, you have the aforementioned stickers!

If RGB makes you game better, it must make a mini fridge colder right?

Features

The So Chill Infinity Mini Fridge is really easy to set up. You literally plug in the C7 plug end of the cable into the fridge and then plug in the USB into a port and off you go. Well, nearly. I will say you need to be careful about where this plugs into, the cable is not very long and the instructions made it very clear that this can only be plugged into a 5V Safety Extra Low Voltage source. This means it’s supported by things such as a PC USB port or even a Powerbank.

Getting it out the box I was really surprised at how light it was. Then I realised this was because it wasn’t like a normal fridge. There is no compressor oil in cooling tubes. I didn’t have to let it settle for 2 hours before I plugged it in. It’s technically ready to go from the moment you open it.

In terms of what you can actually fit in the So Chill Infinity Mini Fridge just enough is probably the best way I can describe it. I managed to squeeze in 4 regular sized cans and a box of some of my favourite easter treats. If I’d have taken the sacred snacks out, I would have had room for 2 more drinks laying flat. So not a huge amount, but just enough for a regular gaming session.

Performance

I feel as though the design of the So Chill Infinity Mini Fridge was the main focus to the detriment of its actual function. Over the course of my review time with this product it was obvious that if I wanted to use this for cold drinks, they had to be cold before going into it. This is not a mini fridge. It is more like a plug in cooler. It will not chill your drinks but it will keep them at a decent temperature. Particularly the ones nearer the back.

Final Thoughts

Given that this is marketed as a mini fridge, I was slightly disappointed with the So Chill Infinity Mini Fridge. That being said, I can see it being a cool gimmick for younger gamers. Stocking it up with little drinks to ensure they’re staying hydrated whilst being sweaty online.

I think the £45 price tag is a little steep for what is essentially a USB powered cold fan box, but again I can see it being a hit birthday present. Although personally I might fork out the extra £5 for the 10L Series X Drinks Cooler. Because whilst it may also just be another USB powered cold fan box it can hold twice as many drinks.

The So Chill Infinity Mini Fridge earns the Thumb Culture Silver Award.
