Straight off the back of my review of the Razer BlackShark V2 X Quartz headset, I’m back with another cute headset offering from Razer. Now for about as long as I’ve wanted a good quality pink headset, I have equally longed for a Razer Kitty headset. And I was very excited to have a set of the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 BTs land in my lap for review.
I’m Not Kitten Around
I never feel as penny-pinching as I do when looking at the price points of headsets. I very much believe in the ethos that you should invest in good audio wear, afterall we all use them so much of the time so they need to be decent! However, when it comes to putting my money where my mouth is, or ears, I know that budgets don’t always allow for this. Mine certainly doesn’t! Retailing for £100 on on the Razer website this headset is considered around mid-range. Let’s take a look at it.

Design Features
Razer kindly sent me the white version of the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 headset, but as ever they are also available in black as well as pink or quartz as they call it. Design wise the headset is pretty standard. It’s lightweight, at 325g meaning you can wear it all day and believe me I did! The earcups have breathable leatherette covering and are lined with fabric. An issue that can come up with closed ear cups, is your ears can get too hot. I didn’t encounter that issue with these.
Moving onto the visual design, what kitty ear headset would be complete with RGB? Both the earcups and ears on this headset are powered by good old Razer Chroma. Whilst you may not ever make it through all the colours and combinations, you will have access to over 16 million colours and effects. Which means the custom aspect of the headset is big. Maybe a little too big, but who doesn’t like choices?

The Razer Kraken Kitty V2 headset is fully wireless utilising Bluetooth. Which holds up well for everyday usage. But if you want a faster wireless response there is also a Gaming Mode which lowers latency. Although to get the most out of this I recommend not being more then about 2ft away from your audio source, or there is a slight drop in connection quality. Battery wise you can get up to 40 hours from one charge. And when you need more juice, simply plug in the USB Type C cable and away you go. Of course you can use the headset whilst it’s charging too.
Sound Quality
Sound quality, the very key to any headset. Packed within the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 headset are the Razer TriForce 40mm drivers. Razer offer big promises with a patented 3-driver design. These supposedly delivers exceptional highs, mids, and lows that provide clarity and quality. I say supposedly, because in complete honesty I was disappointed with the sound quality. No matter whether I was blasting out some Pendulum, John Williams soundtracks or lo-fi beats, the sound just felt a bit flat. I had the same experience when using them during some gaming sessions. The sound isn’t tin-like but it isn’t dynamic, with the emotion of the sounds often lost. They’ve been fine to use for works calls though, but then again Teams meetings aren’t usually the most demanding on auditory hardware!
I briefly used the integrated Beamforming noise-cancelling Mics. The voice quality was fine. I would say if you were hoping to use these for streaming, that you’re still best to stick to an additional microphone. Whilst the mics inbuilt into the ear cups are fine, they don’t give you that clear crisp tone you’ll need to entertain your viewers. The biggest plus point is just how well the noise cancelling works. But then again I’d expect no less for a closed back headset!

Final Thoughts
There is no way around it the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 BT is a headset for those who want style over substance. I can’t avoid it, I was disappointed by the sound quality of this headset. Especially having experienced great things with other Razer Kraken products such as the Kraken V4 headset.
Despite the Kitty ears they just don’t live up to the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro for me. Yes, that headset is twice the price. No, it doesn’t have cute kitty ears. But honestly if you can afford it, these have a way better sound quality. I’d even be tempted to go for the Razer BlackShark V2 X Quartz headset, which has a smaller price tag, over this one. And yes, it does pain me to say that after wanting a Razer Kitty headset for so long!
The Razer Kraken Kitty V2 BT gets the Thumb Culture Silver Award.
