Rally Mechanic Simulator is a new sim game with a focus on cars as seen in events such as the World Rally Championship (WRC). Developed and published by Play2Chill S.A. (Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021) and Atomic Jelly (Space Mechanic Simulator), with additional publishing by PlayWay S.A. (Crime Scene CleanerContraband Police). Fix up your cars, take them to the track and fix them up again between events. It is available now for PC via Steam and has a 10% introductory discount running until the 5th of February.

Hey Can Someone Find Me the Manual?!?

I was looking forward to something new after my poor experience with a previous simulator game. I thought Rally Mechanic Simulator at least promised some excitement. Man I could use some excitement too. Do you have a go-to game whenever you need to rev up? Let me know!

I will say though that the initial trailer from a few years back looks a bit more detailed than what I was about to dive into.

A simple but satisfying mini-game to help save your parts rather than always replacing them.

Gameplay

Rally Mechanic Simulator is about as frank as a title could be. You start out hands-on as a rally car mechanic with a brief tutorial. I say brief because I really didn’t remember anything I was shown when it was time to do things on my own. The basics of the game boil down to selecting a rally event that you want to compete in (at first only as a mechanic, but later also as a driver it appears). Depending on what you select you will then have to prepare your rally car for the event. This may include making repairs from a prior event, changing out suspension or tyre types for the type of track, or purchasing upgrades for you and your shop. The cycle continues and becomes more complex as you gain favour and credits rising through the ranks.

I felt a more than a little overwhelmed when I first started playing Rally Mechanic Simulator. For as much as I personally know the ins and outs of computer parts, I know next to nothing of the inner workings of a vehicle. Thus trying to find certain parts without having any idea where to look was fairy stressful. A hint or written basic manual for reference would be nice to include. Thankfully as I continue to play and I learn more about those inner workings, it has become more enjoyable. I was no longer stressing out looking at the clock. Instead I was trying to burn through repairs as fast as I could!

One mechanic in Rally Mechanic Simulator I found at first to be tedious was having to do each individual part or part set of the car rather than as an overall set at once. Then I realized what a lazy fool I was to think that this rally car sim would somehow include such magic as to make it so. But the game has a learning curve that is easy to manage and push through to an enjoyable simulator overall. Later taking time in between events to work on your car becomes soothing on its own.

Events have different conditions that you must prepare your car for. Nevers hurts to have a backup plan too.

Graphics & Audio

The graphics in Rally Mechanic Simulator are also enjoyable at 4k native resolution and default graphics settings. Surprisingly, even to myself, I didn’t even bother to go in and turn off motion blur this whole time. The game has a crisp simulator aesthetic with a lot of colour thrown in. This allows for some vibrant car colours that you want to make shine.

Also as pleasing is the game’s audio tracks. Sounds of parts at work in Rally Mechanic Simulator don’t grind at your eardrum. Most are actually short and simple bits while your choice of radio station vibes in the background. Definitely an overall relaxing mood to add to the experience.

Vehicle customization is of course always a bonus.

Longevity

Once I did push through that initial overwhelming feeling, I spent more time in Rally Mechanic Simulator than I expected to. The experience is enjoyable, and it seems to become more complex as you progress. Though as I first said earlier, this doesn’t seem to be quite as complex of a game as the initial trailer made it out to be. Maybe the simple path is better in the long run. Upgrading cars and the shop using earnings is also such a simple but satisfying feature. This will be once I’m going to keep playing for a few weeks yet to come.

Final Thoughts

Overall I have to say that Rally Mechanic Simulator is a simple but also complex, relaxing sim. It could be just a bit more friendly to the more casual or lacking of knowledge player. But learning as you go brings an oddly satisfying overtone of gameplay.

For this I award  Rally Mechanic Simulator the Thumb Culture Golden Thumb Award!
