In the lead up to the big Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd, Nintendo have deemed it important to give the Switch one final Direct, focusing on games coming out in the rest of 2025 and beyond. Today’s showcase delivered updates and announcements on upwards of 20 games. I’ve picked out a few of my highlights below.
One Last Hurrah For The Switch
With the Switch 2 update around the corner, it was good to focus on some yet to be released Switch titles, and some surprising ports. What was your favourite game shown off in today’s Nintendo Direct? Shout them out in the comments. I’ve picked out some games to highlight based on my interest in them so let’s take a look at them first.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Metroid fans finally got a better look at Prime 4: Beyond. Samus is transported to a strange new planet and is lauded as the Chosen One. As she explores the planet looking for answers, she receives Psychic Abilities. These powers allow Samus to operate machinery, open doors, and even alter the trajectory of her lasers. What does fate have in store for her? Players will find out later this year.
Rift Of The NecroDancer
Rift Of The NecroDancer is being ported to Switch, and is available today! We love a shadow drop. Rift is the second game in the NecroDancer series and is a rhythm battler where have to defeat enemies that are advancing down a fretboard UI. There’s also a story mode that sees characters in real-world scenarios, such as yoga and photoshoots, complete with mini-games. Rowen loved Rift when she reviewed it for PC in February.
Monument Valley
I played Monument Valley on my iPhone many years ago, and adored the mechanics, puzzles, and general aesthetic. I’m not much of a mobile phone gamer though and as such, I’ve not touched the series since. It’s great to see these games escaping the mobile scene and reaching consoles. These games see you helping your character navigate M.C. Escher style worlds, where up is left and down is back. The first 2 games are available on April 15th and come with all their additional content included. Monument Valley 3 will launch later this summer.
Eternal Life Of Goldman
Fairytales, myths, and legends combine in this story-driven hand-drawn 2D platforming adventure. Upgrade your cane to unlock new abilities to allow you to explore more of the mysterious Archipelago. Can you find the legendary, fabled deity behind this corruption? You’ll get the chance to try later this year.
Witchbrook
Another game that has been many years in the making and is finally getting close to release is Witchbrook. This magic life-sim game looks to be shaping up to be a real spellbinder. Enrol in Witchbrook College, grow your business, decorate your cottage and garden, and more. There’s so much to do, I can see dozens of hours being lost to this game when it launches this winter. Oh, and you can play with up to 3 friends too!
