Full Void – PC Review

Cinematic platformers are a rare find. Lost relics of gaming past, they are a sub-genre that only surfaces sporadically; very few games are classified as such to date. Even less that truly tap into the feel of ‘90s titles like Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee/Exoddus, Heart of Darkness and Another World. I myself spent many hours on the former two as a kid - dying many and sundry times, of course. So when one comes along that does, it immediately gets my attention. Full Void by OutOfTheBit Ltd is one such game. This pixel art platformer paints a bleak (and perhaps now not so outrageously farfetched) picture of a grim future. A rogue A.I. has taken over a sprawling city and controls mankind. Menacing machines now patrol the dilapidated streets and alleys. The only hope lies in a runaway teenage b...

Homeseek – PC Review

Released 20th July 2023, Homeseek is a post apocalyptic colony sim developed by Traptics and published by The Iterative Collection - with QA credited to iXie Gaming. Homeseek is a new venture for Traptics, whose previous games were both 2D. Being an avid fan of colony sims, I've been looking forward to getting my hands on this one. June 6th - 2101 "Born, bred, and educated in underground bunkers, we emerge to stake our claim on the sparsely inhabited surface. What awaits us is a wasteland ravaged by drought and scarred by ancient wars. It may not be as devoid of life as we had imagined, but that does not make it any less perilous; end even where the barren land meets sea, the undrinkable water only taunts us more." Story First up, let's talk story. Rather than an 'everything all at onc...

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons – PC review

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is a side-scrolling beat-em-up released on 27th July 2023 and is available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The game follows the continuing adventures of the Double Dragon brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee who we are familiar with from Double Dragon games going back to their first appearance in 1987 Double Dragon. Two heads are better than one! I absolutely loved Double Dragon when I had a chance to get my hands on it following its release. I was drawn into the story as you took control of one of the brothers battling your way through the streets. Playing it with friends was just as rewarding. What are your favorite side-scrolling fighting games similar to this? Let us know in the comments! Gameplay I went into this...

Tails: The Backbone Preludes – PC Review

In 2021, Egg Nut Games and Raw Fury showed us that the world of animals was even more gritty and complex as our own with noir pixel art game Backbone. Following raccoon P.I. Howard Lotor, players were thrown into a world of intrigue and conspiracy and were left with some questions hanging in the air. 2 years later, they return to share how it all began with prequel Tails: The Backbone Preludes. Tails takes place years before the events of its predecessor, showing the beginnings of its key characters. Backbone protagonist Howard Lotor returns, as does reporter Renee Wilson and mob boss Clarissa Bloodworth. Joined by newcomer Eli Abbas, four stories of growth, discovery, intrigue and danger paint a picture of Vancouver's past. What is beyond the city walls? How did a don’s granddaughter m...

Re-Loaded – PC Review

In December 1996, when the internet was young and Google was less than a year old, the DVD format had just been released and Tom Holland was in nappies, Gremlin Interactive released Re-Loaded less than a year after the moderately successful Loaded. Cut to 2023 and it is the responsibility of Urbanscan to bring the trip down memory lane to the nostalgia driven masses. Time to fashion myself a mohawk and grab the nearest weapon of choice and head off to defeat the enemies and revisit my youth. Re-Loaded - Just another bullet in the chamber? Who doesn't like a little bit of retro action? A visit to the childhood memories that are so sacred in the process of growing up. A chance to force our children to endure the basic lives that we all led before they were even a tingle in our trousers. Ti...

Are you ready to start 'Rootin-Tootin'? I've been eager to play The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack since the trailer first dropped. Now, I wouldn't consider myself a part of the "horse girl" community, however now I've had a taste of it, I can't wait to have more. Watching the likes of lilsimise only solidified this more, and I could not wait to get stuck in. Let me know in the comments if you are enjoying the expansion pack so far, and why.   Gameplay ...

Gunsmith Simulator – PC Review

I'm checking out Gunsmith Simulator, one of three games due to come out from the developers at Gamehunters. If you're a gun enthusiast or you just like guns. Then you can pick it up when it releases on Steam on July 19th this year.  Welcome to the gun show I enjoy playing the simulation genre. If you've seen a few of my other reviews, Gunsmith Simulator looks just as interesting as the others. I've always been curious about dismantling a gun, and I understand that I could simply google it. But where's the fun in that? Gameplay Though Gunsmith Simulator doesn't focus on a real story, the player does receive occasional emails from their Grandpa. The first email says that your Grandpa wants you to take over a Gunsmith workshop and that it won't be easy. He also sends a Colt M1911 that...
