“Check it, clean it, sort it, ship it.” Cash Cleaner Simulator, developed by Mind Control Games and published by Forklift Interactive, lets you experience what it could possibly be like to have tons of cash in your hands. The game releases for PC on May 8th, with a version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S coming later this year.

Please note that this game uses AI-generated images for some phone contact icons and simple wall art.

Cash Is King

What, you think a bunch of money is just gonna magically fall from the sky?? Well, uh, in this game, it kinda does do that. Sure, it’s not all yours to keep, and not necessarily legally acquired, but still. The sky is the limit, and you can stack your cash ’till you reach it. So, let’s have a look!

Money laundering or something, IDK, I’m broke.

Gameplay

Cash Cleaner Simulator has a simple premise at its core. Some totally not shady individuals send you loads of very legally acquired cash, tell you to sort through it based on their specifications, then you box it up nice and pretty and ship it back. Easy peasy! No lemon squeezy tho, it’s not THAT easy.

Some of these very serious and professional people may need you to bundle up some bills in certain ways. Others require you to weed out counterfeits or marked bills, however those got in there. Furthermore, some clients want you to literally clean and dry their cash. Talk about money laundering! The further you get, the more particular your customers become, having multiple wishes or even throwing different currencies at you. After you are done sorting through all their stuff, shove the money into a bag, a box, a mattress, whatever your loyal clients want, then throw it onto a conveyor belt and send it on its way. Well, maybe not all of it. Perhaps just keep a teeny tiny bit to grow your own cash pile? I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Pew Pew.

Time is money

After a job well done, you will be paid in some cryptocurrency. Payment is sent directly to your phone, letting you get some fancy upgrades to make your life easier, or just random stuff to make your space a bit more cosy. Some upgrades are quite essential. For example, you can buy a nice cash counter! Having machines to count money makes your job so much less tedious. You can also purchase a blacklight to easily spot some of the more…unusual bills. You can even get some pallets to stack your funds, or some radios to play some tunes and keep the vibes flowing nicely. It’s good to keep your mood up.

You are kinda stuck there after all. Why though? And who even are you? And why can’t you remember anything? What is happening? And what is up with that gigantic Piggy Bank on the ceiling??

The gameplay is surprisingly enjoyable, despite the tasks seeming rather repetitive. It’s enjoyable to categorize your stock, pack the orders, and count your money. It has a very satisfying aspect to it, especially if you are really into organization like me. The only part I found to be a tad tedious is sorting out some marked bills. Counterfeits get spat out of your upgraded counting machines, but marked ones need to be put under a blacklight, identified, and removed by hand. It can be a bit annoying as you have to check quite a few bills. Sometimes you don’t even expect them to have a chance at being marked, so I sometimes ran into a situation where I accidentally sent some clients marked bills. Oopsie.

Now imagine this, but with, like, 100x the cash.

Graphics & Audio

The game’s fun, simple and cartoon-y style matches the slightly comedic writing of the game fairly well. Sure, your space can look a little barren, but that just means more space to fill with piles of cold, hard cash. You are a cash cleaner, after all, not an interior decorator.
I do personally wish they had chosen not to go with AI-generated images.

The background music in the game is played by some cute little radios, playing different styles of music based on which one you decide to buy. If you would rather spend your money on upgrades and not the luxury of fancy tunes, fret not! A radio alarm clock is with you from the start to provide you with some classy music. The tools make some satisfying noises as you work with them, like the cash counters, for example. They make this nice rattling as the money goes through, and give you a little “ding” whenever it is done with its task. Overall, nothing outstanding, but it really doesn’t have to be!

Erm, actually ☝️🤓 Money laundering does not mean that you put the money in a washer, so maybe you should remove that “joke” from the article. The term money laundering is said to have its origi-…

Longevity

Apart from the main storyline, Cash Cleaner Simulator offers countless side missions for you to tackle and some achievements for you to complete — though most of those can be checked off just by going through the game’s story mode. Even after about 20 hours of playtime, I have yet to get sick of the gameplay loop. However, I do think that the side missions could offer a teeny tiny bit more variety to keep you engaged for longer. Ultimately, it really depends on how much you enjoy the game’s concept and gameplay, ’cause you won’t run out of content anytime soon.

Final Thoughts

Cash Cleaner Simulator is a simple game with a simple premise. It may have a seemingly repetitive gameplay loop, but the game is still very fun and rather addictive, even with some more tedious tasks on your checklist. It is surprisingly relaxing to be surrounded by piles of cash and the rattling of the counting machines. If you are into sorting, organizing, counting, and a bit of fun, this game is probably right up your alley.

Today, Cash Cleaner Simulator earns the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
