Bite Sized PC Review – RATSHAKER

Read Time:2 Minute, 4 Second

RATSHAKER is a horror with a comedic twist, like the title suggests — we shake a rat. Soooo, yeah. The game is developed by Sunscorched Studios and is currently out on Steam for £2.49. I mean, there is also a supporter’s pack for an additional £8.50 which gets you some outfit for said rat.

I’ve heard of choking the chicken, but this is a new one.

A long arm is stood in a hallway with a brown door in front of them. Several boxes are to the left, stalked up. The arm is holding a rat and begins shaking him violently.
This is what it’s all about.

Gameplay

RATSHAKER starts with you in a field and gives you the rundown of how to shake the rat. Although you mainly walk around shaking the rat to fill up the bar above, you can also choke him too. When shaking him, he will go through various noises, with some making him sound demented. And choking him is used to unlock doors, be warned choking him for too long will kill him (duh).

Occasionally the rat will speak to you in his deep toned holier than thou voice. Suggesting stuff about the story. As you explore the house, sometimes there are mini-games like starting a generator, but you mostly walk… and shake the rat. Selecting the wrong things in the environment will kill both you and the rat. You’ll know this since the rat comments on it before death.

Longevity

RATSHAKER wasn’t particularly long, and I beat it just under an hour. There is another ending to obtain, but with how long the intro is alone. I just didn’t have it in me. Plus once you’ve played it once, you have seen it all.

Stood in the kitchen, there is a table with a painting on the floor on the right of the table. The table itself has a red plant in a pot, four white cups and a stack of plates on it. The arm is holding a rat that he begins to choke aggressively until it starts turning purple and the eye begin to slowly pop out.
Squeeezze the life

Final Thoughts

Although the game is funny, with you shaking and choking out the rat. The game left much to be desired overall. A story that is simple but also felt like it didn’t go anywhere, and choking the rat became tedious when opening doors. Level designs in some areas looked too similar, and RATSHAKER forces more time out of you with those odd fleshy corridors. I enjoyed the voice and funny noises the rat yells when shaken, which made me laugh.

Good for a cheap laugh, not so much good for anything else. So it’s gonna be the Thumb Culture Bronze Award from me.
