Dave the Diver: In the Jungle is a continuation of the Dave the Diver game. Harpooned by the brilliant minds at MINTROCKET. Honestly it was a great way to dive into the game with more mechanics and characters to fall in love with again. Getting some freshwater fish and the new materials for some new changes as well. Now let’s put our diving suits on and get Bancho the special ingredient of this review.

The one place where can have both a somewhat lime and access to coconuts. You should already know where I’m going with this.

Gameplay

Dave the Diver: In the Jungle brings a lot of new changes that I’m actually here for. Not only do we go to a jungle village to help them is a Blue Hole issue but with freshwater. But also trying to solve this large issue of dinosaurs washing up on shore…DEAD! Meanwhile, we get there and the carcass of some sort of creature is already bloating up and exploding similar to a whale. After which we start to speak with some of the locals and then hit the waters with our new Jungle Gun.

You heard right! JUNGLE GUN! This thing is the multi-tool or a swish army knife since it can change from an AR, to a shotgun, to a sniper and lastly a net gun. If you played this game before, you understand how much of a difference it gives us compared to picking guns. This honestly saves me such a headache with choosing what weapon to bring to a hunt.

The new fish and tools aren’t the only thing that adds a lot to our plate. We got new mini-games and game mechanics that you’ll come across as the story progresses. Meanwhile, the small changes to the restaurant mechanic is honestly more freeing than just going left and right. We’re able to go straight to the customer to their table and make drinks or deliver food.

Graphics and Audio

Now this one might be short since MINTROCKET has a beautiful harmony between pixel art and 3-D art styles. Every flora and fauna are made with a pixel art design. While adventuring underwater, almost everything is a 3-d render of everything from the environment to the fish we capture or swim with. However, the level of details that the bigger targets have is well done and shows the team did their research.

The music of the game is as amazing as the original entry of the game. With it accompanying the cutscenes perfectly from just learning a new recipe or upgrading the Jungle Gun. Even the moments of combat have some really good music that has me going and focused on the fight. Especially when you get to a certain scene in the game that has you go through a Taiko drumming game mechanic.

Longevity

So, MINTROCKET states that the DLC has over 10 hours of new story and gameplay. I’m here to tell you that it was not a joke! I’ve been playing for 20 hours and have mostly been engrossed trying to get the restaurant status to the top. Or getting my digital plant to fully grow or completing the Insectgram page for the homies. There is a lot to do and for us completionists, we’ll be here for hours!

Final Thoughts

Dave the Diver: In the Jungle is a fantastic DLC to this fun and addictive. With the new mechanics that kept being added and me enjoying the new things that appear. We’re not being forced to speed up the story and take our time with it. I honestly feel that this is a great game to play while we wait for Bancho the Chef. So, don’t mind me, I’m going back into the diving suit and hunting for everything I can!
