I’ve always been into flight sims, and I’ve owned a number of different flight sticks. One that I never owned was the original T.Flight HOTAS. Well, that was until Thrustmaster got in touch and asked if we wanted to check out the T.Flight HOTAS 5 that was released back in June of this year. I couldn’t say no, could I? Officially licensed for the PlayStation 5, and for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and retailing at £89.99.
Awaken Your Inner Pilot
Now first off the bad, I just want to say that I’ve not tried this playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on the PlayStation. Mostly because of funds. However, I tried this on a number of other flight sims; even Star Wars Squadrons was put to the test and boy, it did not disappoint.
Design Features
The brilliant white classic design of previous T.Flight Hotas’s through the years. We have the split throttle and joystick, allowing you to get it set up in a number of configurations. Fitting whatever layout you feel. Personally, I enjoyed having them together when playing on my lap. However, transition to a desk layout, the split option was perfect. Once you’ve chosen your configuration, simply plug it into the USB port of your PlayStation and away you go. Ready to take to the skies.
The ergonomic design of the joystick lets you get to grips with all sorts of flying games. The T.Flight HOTAS 5 is a great companion for all budding flight sim fans. I spent a lot of time playing Star Wars Squadrons on my first testing session. Heading out in the X-Wing was an amazing experience. Being able to easily fly through space using all the controls and buttons on the HOTAS was awesome. It was in that moment that I wished I had kept my PSVR 2 because, let me tell you, that would have been a complete experience.
With a dual rudder system where you can either use the joystick rotation or the tilting lever on the back of the throttle. Whichever way you choose, you are getting a complete set of buttons to play through whatever you fancy. Now, don’t get me wrong, with the sheer number of buttons needed to get deep into Microsoft Flight Sim 2024, you are going to struggle to assign everything. You can get it good to go, though- enough to have a great gameplay session, whatever you choose to play.
The T. Flight HOTAS 5 is compatible with the full-size Thrustmaster TFRP rudder pedals, should you choose to upgrade your setup even further. It is also compatible with pretty much any game that has native HOTAS support.
Final Thoughts
This is a great option for all budding pilots. It gives access to immersive gameplay for a budget that most gamers could afford. For Less £100 you could be the next big thing in aviation. I mean, probably not, but you will have a great immersive experience with whatever sim you choose.
The Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 5 easily gets a nice big Thumb Culture Gold Award.
