Solasta: Palace of Ice – PC Preview

Palace of Ice is the latest DLC for Solasta and is a direct follow-up to Crown of the Magister. I was kindly invited to play with a few of the game's developers & publishers at Tactical Adventures. Solasta is their debut game and I was thrilled to be able to see their passion for it. The hour-long preview showcased 3 new regions with the return of the Soraks and new enemies demons & devils. The new campaign comes to PC on May 25th, almost exactly two years after Crown of the Magister. Fans of the base game will undoubtedly enjoy the 25+ hours of this high fantasy non-linear story. I also had the pleasure of reviewing previous Solasta content which I've linked below. Solasta: Palace of Ice - the cold never bothered me anyway I've had a great time playing past Solasta content an...

Shardpunk: Verminfall – PC Review

Shardpunk: Verminfall is described by its developer as a "tactical squad-based survival strategy game, based in a steampunk, rat-infested world". Developed by Clockwork Pile and published by Retrovibe Games, Shardpunk: Verminfall is available for PC. It is available now and will set you back £9.99/$11.99 on Steam and will require 3GB of storage. Survival of the Rattest Now, I'll start off the same way the game does, by telling you that Shardpunk: Verminfall is not an easy game. Basically, you're going to die. After that, you'll start the game anew, with new skills and new characters to choose from. Then you'll die again. So on and so forth. I'm sure more competent players will be able to play the game all the way through with fewer restarts than I did. But not many will complete it wi...

Unheard: Voices of Crime Edition – Switch Review

Unheard: Voices of Crime Edition by devs NExT Studios and published by 505 Games is an interesting game that mainly uses sound as its primary game mechanic. Available on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, I was fortunate enough to put my ears to the test on the Switch version. Being the first time on console, as it has been out on PC since 2019, I felt that this could be a good handheld game to get stuck into. Stop, Look, and Listen. Playing as an acoustic detective. Do you have what it takes to solve the mysteries that are about to be presented to you? Gameplay Unheard: Voices of Crime is a 2D top-down game that presents itself on a single screen. In a nutshell, you play a detective that needs to revisit crime scenes and answer questions about what has happened. It is e...

Cassette Beasts – PC Review

Originally announced in October 2021, today sees the release of the Creature Collector-JRPG Cassette Beasts, developed by UK-based Bytten Studio, and published by Sweden-based Raw Fury. Cassette Beasts is available today for Steam and Windows, and will be released on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch in late Spring 2023. Today we will be looking at the PC version, which will cost £16.75/$19.99 or can be played via PC Game Pass and will require 2GB of space. Gotta Record 'em All? Now, if there is one thing I'm certain of, it's that this game will no doubt have "Pokémon clone" thrown around alongside it. And while yes, it is a creature-collecting, monster-battling, turn-based JRPG, I feel like calling it a Pokémon clone would be doing it a disservice. Of course, there...

Shadows of Doubt – PC Preview

We had a chance to get a sneak peek of Shadows of Doubt, a detective stealth game from ColePowered Games released into Early Access on 24th April 2023 on PC. The Devs boast of an immersive game where you have the freedom to play the game how you want. Let's take a closer look. If in doubt, Stakeout! ColePowered Games offers here a character-rich and immersive detective thriller. Being a crime/detective game fan I had to check this title out. Are you a fan of this style of game? Leave a comment below and let us know what games you enjoy. Gameplay Shadows of Doubt is essentially a detective game, more particularly one with a feel of neo-noir crime drama. While not explained much I got the feeling the character you play is a retired detective. The game starts with a dark room with text sa...

The Wreck – PS5 Review

There's a category at The Game Awards called Games For Impact. It's an award for thought provoking games that tackle some real world issues, with Celeste and Gris being among its previous winners. Mato Anomalies – PC Review

Arrowiz, the studio that brought you Cairo's Tale and Beat Fever, and with help from Prime Matter publishing comes Mato Anomalies. A visual novel, JRPG, is based in a futuristic city. Mato Anomalies was released on March 10th of this year. You can play it on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and Steam for £31.99. It's only a "Mato" of time. The trailer for Mato Anomalies looks to me like a cross between Persona and Slay The Spire. Being someone who doesn't usually go for the visual novel genre, I thought I would give this one a go. Playing two protagonists caught my interest, and the story of uncovering the strange world of Mato made me even more curious. Explore the neo-futuristic world of Mato as Doe, a private detective dragged into a job to discover the whereabouts of the product HANDOUT. D...

Brok the InvestiGator – PS5 Review

I've been following the development of Brok the Investigator for quite some time and was delighted when it got announced for consoles. Developed by French solo indie developer CowCat Games, the game was initially released on PC in August 2022. Brok The InvestiGator - Punch & Click! Fabrice Breton (who is CowCat) completed the majority of the work himself including game design, programming, writing and artwork. Played here on PS5 the game is also available on PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and Linux. Gameplay Brok the InvestiGator is a mix of a point and click adventure and a beat'em up. Hence the "Punch & Click" moniker given to it by its creator. Set in a light cyberpunk world where animals have replaced humans, privileged citizens live under a pro...
