Shadows of Doubt – PC Preview

We had a chance to get a sneak peek of Shadows of Doubt, a detective stealth game from ColePowered Games released into Early Access on 24th April 2023 on PC. The Devs boast of an immersive game where you have the freedom to play the game how you want. Let's take a closer look. If in doubt, Stakeout! ColePowered Games offers here a character-rich and immersive detective thriller. Being a crime/detective game fan I had to check this title out. Are you a fan of this style of game? Leave a comment below and let us know what games you enjoy. Gameplay Shadows of Doubt is essentially a detective game, more particularly one with a feel of neo-noir crime drama. While not explained much I got the feeling the character you play is a retired detective. The game starts with a dark room with text sa...

As Administrator of the Tiqqun, DOLOS’ prototype space station, you are tasked with balancing preservation and exploration as you manage infrastructure, resources and crew. Can you keep the flame of humanity alight in the cold dark?" Developed for PC by Bulwark Studios and published by Kasedo Games, IXION is a story-driven colony-sim set amongst the stars. Released back in December 2022, join me as I take a look at the game to see how it holds up some 4 years later. The Best Last Humanity Has To Offer Confident in their logic, and ignorant to the consequences of their technology, mankind has brought about its own destruction. Unfathomable malfunctions have caused the VOHLE engine - humanity's greatest achievement - to r...

Escape String – Nintendo Switch Review

From Italy-based developer BumbleBee and US/Thailand-based publisher 7 Raven Studios, today we’ll be taking a look at Escape String, which is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch. We’ll be covering the Nintendo Switch version, which comes in at £6.29/$6.99 with a download size of 324 MB. Sometimes to go forward, you need to go back Set in an undefined time and place, Escape String is a single-player 2D puzzle game, with a twist. The premise is simple enough, you have to help our little mechanical chum traverse his way through 40 levels. Except you don’t control the robot, not really. Gameplay You start each level at the left-hand side of a room. As previously mentioned, you don’t have actual control of the robot. Instead, you have to input a ...

Lair Of The Clockwork God Review – Point And Quip

Lair of the Clockwork God is brought to you by BAFTA-winning indie developer Size Five Games. Initially released on Steam in February 2020 and now available on PS4. It offers a never before seen mix of mechanics. On one hand, it's a point and click puzzle adventure in the vein of LucasArts classics such as Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle. On the other hand, it's an indie darling platformer complete with double jumping and Naruto running. The blend of gameplay approaches itself creates new ways to pose, and solve puzzles. You'll play as both Dan and Ben and will find yourself switching between the 2 frequently in order to utilise their skill sets. You'll have a blast as Dan and Ben muddle through old school adventure puzzles and platforming sections. Together you'll need to tea...

Tetris Effect: Connected – Not That Effective…

Tetris Effect: Connected is the follow-up to Tetris Effect. It's actually mostly the same game, only with the addition of all-new co-op and competitive online modes. These modes can also be played locally and are probably where the game really excels. If you're reading this, heck if you're human then you'll know what Tetris is. If you don't know what Tetris is then there's likely a whole lot more to this planet that you've never seen. I'll pause here a moment to let you go learn about things like the sun, air, trees and sandwiches. Now that we're sure you know what Tetris is, what makes Tetris Effect: Connected different? The whole shtick of the game is that it's Tetris with moods. As you manipulate the tetrominos on-screen they'll influence the beat, and the surroundings to help en...

Cloud Gardens – This is Art-A-Stack…

Cloud Gardens is an incredibly relaxing, diorama creating puzzle game from Noio Games. Their first game since the excellent Kingdom franchise debuted; Cloud Gardens is what I like to call a seed 'em up. It's an incredibly different pace compared to their more roguelite, tower defence style of the Kingdom games. Giving you small urban wastelands, that you can manipulate and grow plants in. Your goal is to populate and produce a diorama. That is until you achieve a certain level of foliage and you're able to progress. You quickly realise Cloud Gardens is just an incredibly relaxing puzzle game, with some clever engine design too. Gameplay Cloud Gardens starts up and you're just given a voxelised space to examine; it is up to you to work out how to play the game. In fact the first level is ...

Manifold Garden – Up Is Down And Down Is Up?

Created as a debut title for William Chyr Studios by a small team of programmers, Manifold Garden is an interesting take on the puzzle-platformer adventure.  Take what you know about physics and toss it out the window. That knowledge is no good here. Up is not necessarily up, and down isn't always down.  Created by William Chyr, who wanted to create a puzzle game that he felt, as a player, he could finish. Manifold Garden was initially revealed with the name Relativity, referring to the M.C. Escher work that inspired it. There are a few behind-the-scenes type videos available on YouTube if you're curious about how this games impossible geometry was pulled off. Currently Manifold Garden is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. PC and Mobile ports are being worked on. ...

Willy Morgan & The Curse of Bone Town – Hey You Guuuuyyyyssss!

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town by Italian devs Imaginarylab and publishers VLG is a point and click adventure game that beautifully blends together a fantasy pirate-themed world with the modernism of today. Initially available on PC today (11th of August), and later coming to all consoles, I was lucky enough to play through the complete version of the game that delves a lot further into the story than the demo. Don't worry there won't be any spoilers me hearties! Gameplay You play as teenager Willy Morgan as he uncovers the story surrounding his famous archaeologist Father's mysterious disappearance ten years ago, all thanks to a well-timed letter dropping through the letterbox. What ensues is a very alluring plotline that takes you to Bone Town, a quaint pirate vil...

Beyond A Steel Sky – 3D Point & Click Greatness

Beyond A Steel Sky by Revolution Software Ltd (Broken Sword Series), is a 3D point and click adventure game set in a cyberpunk world, written as a sequel to Beneath A Steel Sky which was released back in 1994.  Having played the first game back when I was 14 obviously things have massively moved on technology-wise since then.  Would Beyond A Steel Sky manage to successfully carry on the legacy? Gameplay Beyond A Steel Sky is a single-player game whereby you take on the role of Robert Foster, perceived as a rogue due to coming from a place called the Gap.  The main quest is to infiltrate a utopian Union City to discover where a kidnapped child has been taken.  What proceeds is a story-driven exploration around a heavily regulated city littered with challenging puzzles and interactive ...
