Josef Fares, a regular face at The Game Awards, returned this year with another expletive laden monologue to announce Hazelight Studios’ next co-op game. Split Fiction is an action-packed co-op buddy adventure that jumps between sci-fi and fantasy worlds. Hazelight’s previous game, It Takes Two, was one of my favourite games of 2021 and won Game of the Year at The Game Awards that year.
Getting Cocky With It
After completing It Takes Two, my partner and I have been awaiting the next adventure from Hazelight. In March 2025, that time will finally arrive. Introducing the trailer at The Game Awards, Fares said “At Hazelight, we have a saying where we say, ‘we f- s- up without f-ing up’… This time it’s some next level s-”. He continued, “I know I sound cocky, but it’s really hard to not be cocky when you have a game like this.” Honestly, I don’t doubt the quality of what they’re going to deliver, so more power to him.
In Split Fiction, players will discover a variety of sci-fi and fantasy mechanics and abilities. Scenarios include everything from escaping a sun that’s going supernova or challenging a monkey to a dance battle. With worlds that are entirely different from each other, surprising challenges await players at every turn. We’ve already been teased on the next traumatic in-game event player will have to contend with. I’m talking about the BBQ clip seen in the trailer. Thanks, Josef.
With a wide range of ever-changing abilities, players will take on the roles of Mio and Zoe as you work together to take back their creative legacies and discover the power of an unexpected friendship. Mio and Zoe are contrasting writers, one of sci-fi and the other of fantasy, who become trapped in their own stories after being hooked up to a machine designed to steal their creative ideas. Jumping back and forth between worlds, they’ll have to work together and master a variety of abilities in order to break free with their memories intact.
Play Together
Hazelight promiss that Split Fiction will be their most epic co-op adventure yet. And knowing just how much content was packed into It Takes Two, my hype levels couldn’t be higher for this. March can’t come quick enough!
In great news for fans, Friend’s Pass is returning. This is a Hazelight Studios staple feature, which allows one player who owns the game to invite a friend to play for free. Not only is the feature back, but it’s pushed even further. Yes we have crossplay options enabled for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam.
Split Fiction releases on March 6, 2025. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and EA app.
