Citadel: Forged With Fire Review – Old Man Mordaith

So gather ‘round y'all, and listen to the ol' fella for a moment. Once again we’re taking a look into the guts of an Early Access promise. Yeah, that’s right... A promise. Sure it is technically a game, but when a product’s in Early Access it may as well be strung together with hopes, dreams, and unicorn blood. That isn't to say they're necessarily bad products, but consumers need to take a good long think about what they’re getting into. There are great companies that have used Early Access to engage with their fan bases. We'd be remiss not to mention them, companies like InXile and Larian that have shown us gamers how positive an experience the Early Access path can be. But, we can't ignore the risk. For every InXile or Larian, we have half a dozen or so companies that produce unfinis...

Spintires: Mudrunner PC Review – Grinding Gears

Spintires: Mudrunner by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Home Interactive is available from today on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and through Steam. It has a very niche section of the gaming community very excited with its huge Soviet-era trucks tackling all terrains. I always thought I could drive anything in the game world but having seen some of these behemoths I'm now unsure. Lets find out shall we? Gameplay I put on my best trucking hat and picked up my controller and now I'm ready to roll. Thankfully Spintires: Mudrunner has a tutorial to start with. My god I needed this. The game physics and simulation level are top-notch and I don't have any real life experience off-road either. Initially I started with the challenge mode. Yes back to front I know but I do like a ch...

Sudden Strike 4 PC Review- Once More Unto the Breach

Kite Games have treated us to the 4th instalment of the Sudden Strike franchise, the very cleverly named Sudden Strike 4. After the previous successes, this release has a lot to live up to. This is my second foray into the series, having only played the original release before, so I'm sure my rustiness will be evident as I jump back in. So with my lunch packed in a tin,  a flask of tea and a English to German phrasebook, I'm ready for action. We won the war, so I have victory running through my veins. This one's for you Grandad. Let the war begin. Gameplay Sudden Strike 4 is an RTS set during the second world war. RTS stands for Real Time Strategy, this means that everything you do is in real time and you have to be quite strategic. This isn't rocket science. If you are in any doubt then...

Dreamworks Voltron VR Chronicles Review – Bot Bot Bot

As an 80s kid I have very fond memories of Voltron. It was among many cartoons I used to watch religiously. So when I heard a VR game had been created, I jumped at the chance to check it out. (Yes, I know it’s technically based on the Dreamworks remake that I haven’t seen, but... IT’S VOLTRON!!) For those of you not familiar with Voltron, the basis of the storyline is that five teenagers are transported from Earth to become the last line of defence for the galaxy in an intergalactic battle against the evil alien force led by Lord Zarkon. Voltron VR Chronicles has been created by Digital Domain and gives us the opportunity to ‘become a Paladin’ and experience a unique story created exclusively for VR. At a price point of $15 (UK Price still TBA), I started this game hoping to be engaged ...

So with a break in the Rugby games for a few years, is Rugby 18 going to revolutionise the genre and bring life back to a neglected sport? Let's find out. Gameplay When you first load up Rugby 18 you are taken through a tutorial match, and explained each of the controls. Well that is if you happen to be in the situation where you need instruction. For example, if the ball go...

Bomber Crew PC Review – Muster Stations And Panic Stations

Curve Digital bring us Bomber Crew, without looking it's fairly obvious what the game is about, but have they made it destroy the enemies or will it fall like a dud and get blown up by the experts. Time to strap on a bomber jacket and see what I can do. Gameplay There are 2 aspects to Bomber Crew. The pre flight decision making, and then the flight itself. Choose your crew, pick the ones that look the cutest and adorable because that will encourage you to keep them alive (see above, totally adorable). You can change their outfits, everything from life jackets to their boots. Once you are happy with your crew and you have them all looking like the Andrews Sisters then you can check out your plane. A brand new state of the art.......... who am I trying to kid, it's a dustbin on wheels ...

Project Nimbus Review – Sky Wars With Flying Mechs

Okay, no, let’s get this ironed out right away, Project Nimbus isn’t a game based on the Nimbus 2000 from Harry Potter. What it is however, is an intense, action packed, airborne mech shooter that’s bound to get you nose-to-screen, and teeth grinding. Project Nimbus has recently just flown its way out of Early Access on the 26th of September 2017, and is being developed by GameCrafterTeam, a development team of four, and an additional two composers. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic Earth in which the player controls mechs, otherwise known in-game as, “BattleFrames”. These giant suits are equipped with missiles and automatic weapons, powerful jets to enable them to fly, and heavily armoured for intense sky battles. Each BattleFrame pilot have their own styles of fighting, and while the gam...

Deceit Review – Big Trouble

Deceit is what you’re doing when you cheat somebody by concealing or misrepresenting the truth. This game involves a little bit of that, but mostly shooting your teammates who haven’t done anything wrong. The original concept of Deceit is simple. A team of people exist in a world somewhere and roughly a quarter of them aren’t who they say they are. They’re the bad guys in disguise. So, while they are taking a lot of precaution to make sure you don’t find out who they are while they position themselves to murder the rest of you, your job is to figure out who is who, and murder the ones that are bad. If this story sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Garry’s Mod has a game inside of it called “Trouble in Terrorist Town” and… it’s pretty much the exact same game. “Trouble in Terrorist Tow...

FIFA 18 – A 2 Good 2 Bad Review

It's that time of year again when EA release their iteration of FIFA to go up against Konami's PES, this year FIFA getting the 18 treatment. So how does FIFA 18 hold up against the rest and what do we think of the game as a whole. Rather than give you a run down of what the game is about, i'm going to come at this from a different angle. For those of you that watch Match Of The Day 2 you will know all about this. The feature on the show where the pundits look back at the weekends action and give their best and bad bits. So without further ado, lets take a look at the 2 Bad side first (I always have bad news first) 2 Bad New Standing Tackle So a new standing tackle system has been introduced where you have to charge up your tackle, the further your tackle bar goes up the harder the tackl...

NHL 18 Review – Newbies Start Here

We are at that part of the year once more when EA Sports release the latest versions of their sports series.  With Fifa 18, NBA Live and Madden NFL out on the market. I was pleased to have the opportunity to play EA's NHL 18 to see how it had been improved from last years offering, and also to let me do my bit to raise awareness for a sport that over in the UK isn't really well followed. In the sporting charts you wouldn't be surprised to learn that Fifa 17 on the PS4 sold 1,250,586 (VGChartz) within the first few months of its release in 2016 making it most likely to adorn the shelves of gamers up and down the country.  Lets face it, football is massive over here.  Ice hockey on the other hand is not so popular, and in contrast the UK sales for NHL 17 were a mere 3745 (VGChartz) copies...
