Retire the clown wigs and make-up! After many years, countless showcases, and infinite misplaced hope, the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong has been announced; 4th September 2025.
The follow-up game from Team Cherry will see Hornet transported to a land haunted by silk and song, in which she must ascend to its peak.
The Wait Is Almost Over, For Real This Time
The news came via Team Cherry’s YouTube channel, in a brand-new trailer for the game. As well as the all important date, the trailer demonstrates the visual polish that has been applied since we first laid eyes on Pharloom back in 2019. Hornet is striking and clear against the various backdrops throughout the haunted land.

The trailer boasts of Silksong’s 200+ enemies and 40+ boss fights, making this follow-up to Hollow Knight much more content-packed than the launch version of its predecessor. We were even treated to a brief glimpse of Pharloom’s map, which I assume is already being poured over for clues by the communities top investigative/hype-building content creators. In just 2 short weeks, we’ll finally be able to plumb its depths ourselves.
Other Features
From previous information, we know that Silksong will also feature a questing system, allowing Hornet to help Pharloom’s citizens in various ways by completing side-quests. Hornet will also be able to adapt her weaponry to various scenarios will multiple tools and loadouts. The game will also launch with Silk Soul Mode. This is an unlockable game mode in which — assuming it follows Hollow Knight’s Steel Soul rules — death removes all progress.

More To Come?
In an interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry talked a lot about how much fun development has been. So much so, in fact, they had to consciously make an effort to stop adding to the game. While they now have a locked in launch version, their minds are already planning DLC. So we can expect additional Silksong updates in the months and years following launch. Exciting!
There was no word on any physical release or additional merchandise at this time, but I imagine that will follow in the coming weeks and months once the launch has passed. Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available for purchase on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox (also available on GamePass Day One), Sony PlayStation 4, Sony PlayStation 5, GoG and Humble Bundle on September 4th. It can be wishlisted on the various storefronts today.
