Trifox – PC Review

Trifox is a colorful new, original IP action-adventure game by Glowfish Interactive (Space Pirate Trainer). The twin-stick shooter and 3D platformer is being published by Big Sugar (Valfaris, Berserk Boy, Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual) and will be available for PC and consoles. The game releases today (14th October) on Switch, Xbox Seriese X|S and One, and PC via Steam/Epic. Trifox also plans to release on PS4 and PS5 at a later date. Time to Get Foxy in Trifox! One of the first games I remember playing on PlayStation 1 was Crash Bandicoot. Trifox reminds me quite a lot of that game with it's colorful aesthetic and witty character. It's great when you find games that bring a nostalgic but fresh feeling. What games come to mind that you've run across that bring the same feelings, ...

Sam And Max Remastered – Playstation Review

Sam and Max Remastered reminds us of another time. The year is 2008 and Sam and Max Beyond Space and Time has just been released and published by Telltale Games. Released on multiple formats including the Playstation 3. Beyond Space and Time was the follow-up to Save The World the original Sam and Max title. It is fair to say that the duo were very popular and sales showed that at the time. We now have Sam and Max Remastered which features both the original Save The World and Beyond Space and Time. The remaster is being handled by Skunkape Games, this is a studio that was founded in 2020 when Telltale Games closed its doors. The studio was brought together by several members of the Telltale Games staff. Sweet mother of all things good and plenty Gameplay Sam is a sentient dog in...

Tin Hearts – PC Preview

Tin Hearts has been lovingly created by Rogue Sun, published by Wired Productions and will release soon on Steam for PC. In this 3D puzzler, players "Guide a troop of tin soldiers through a magical toy-filled world, in this immersive puzzle adventure game from members of the team that brought you Fable." Lionhead Studios?! Yes, you did read that right. Rogue Sun is comprised of ex Lionhead Studios developers - the team who brought us the legendary Fable franchise. When Microsoft chose to shutdown Lionhead in 2016, it was a blow felt by all gamers, sparking controversy still talked about today. Seeing the developers back in action is fantastic, but this certainly adds a level of expectation to the title. Will Tin Hearts meet those expectations? Well, if Gamescom 2022 is anything to go by ...

Oxide Room 104 – PS5 Review

Horror comes in all shapes and sizes, and WildSphere's Oxide Room 104 thinks bigger is not always better. This self-published title takes cues from body horror and escape rooms to combine them into this neat, but short, horror-puzzler package. Oxide Room 104 - It's an Evil F***ing Room Oxide Room 104 was released on June 16th, 2022 on all current consoles and PC. I love a good horror game as nothing has chilled me since Outlast. When I saw the trailer, it really gave me Saw (the movie) vibes and I immediately wanted to play it. So, let's open the door to Oxide Room 104 and see what's inside. Gameplay So after the intro where you, Matt, get knocked out at the gas station, you wake up in the bathtub of some dingy motel. You're naked, injured, confused and have absolutely no idea how ...

The Dark Prophecy – PS5 Review

The Dark Prophecy is a 2D pixel art point-and-click adventure-type game designed to play on our fond memories of the style of games from the 80s/90s, like Kings Quest, Broken Sword, and Monkey Island, to name a few. The game has been developed by Start Warp and published by Meridian4 who both have offered up this dose of nostalgia, which was released on 28th February 2022 and is available now available to buy on Steam. Gotta foresee it to believe it I always gravitate back to point-and-click games, as they always take you back to where brainpower was key to advancing through the game, not just solely skill. Combining items and discovering items that maybe could work with something you discovered previously. It's a great feeling that revelation and, dare I say it, thrill when you make tha...

Autonauts vs Piratebots – Preview

Autonauts vs Piratebots is a simulation strategy game developed by Denki Ltd and published by Curve Games. With a release date set for July 28, Thumb Culture gets a sneak peak and an early look at the game. Autonauts... Automate! "Grave news! Side note: Did you know the devs for this one are based in Scotland? What a beautiful place to create games! Anyway, on with the show... Gameplay First up, the tutorial. Autonauts vs Piratebots is a little heavy on the reading, particularly in the earlier stages of the game. The intro tutorial can get a little bit long and frustrating at times, although there is a lot to learn so best pay a...

Unavowed – Switch Review

The opening of Unavowed — a point-and-click adventure game first released in 2018 on Mac and PC and now out on the Switch — throws you straight into the action. The first shot is of a moody, blood-orange sky depicted in beautiful, high-quality pixel art (the resolution so high that the word ‘pixel’ seems redundant). Rain is falling. Tense music plays. With the exception of the main character, the game is entirely voice-acted, and we hear some dialogue of what turns out to be an exorcism. The camera pans down to three figures on a rooftop, one of which is you: you are the one being exorcised. You don’t remember anything and you’re confused as hell. Of the other two figures, one has a knife in your back and the other a magic staff in your face. For some, a magic staff might sound off-putt...

Silt Switch Review

Since it was announced, I’ve paid a fair bit of attention to the conversations around Silt (Spiral Circus, Fireshine Games). Limbo is mentioned as a comparison more often than not. In a way this isn’t surprising. Both indie games share an obvious similarity in their black and white aesthetic. Tom Mead, the lead designer on the project, told me it was a flattering comparison and that PlayDead were one of his favourite studios. But he felt that it was a ‘basic comparison’—only down to the colours. I think he’s right. In a way, I know he’s right. Full disclosure: I’ve known Tom for a long time. We went to university together and have been housemates more than once—in fact, he’s one of my closest friends. Without doubt, this makes my ability to review Silt objectively a little difficult,...
