We’re back with more Razer hardware, and now it’s the turn of the Wolverine V3 Pro controller. More specifically, the white edition! On the PR email I received, this controller sounds fantastic. But does it live up to its own expectations? Being a Razer fan, I’m inclined to say yes, but let’s take a closer look.
A serious bit of kit
A good controller will always set you back a bit, and the Wolverine V3 Pro is no different with it’s £199.99 price tag. These come and go in stock, so grab yours quick from the Razer store. After you’ve read this review of course.

Design
You can tell right away that the Wolverine V3 Pro is constructed from high-quality materials, and not just because it has a zipped carry case, within a box, within a box slip! Everything feels fancier when it has extra packaging. Once you unzip the aforementioned carry case, you’ll find the controller itself, a USB cable, two extra thumbsticks, and the USB Bluetooth dongle. The controller is a nice 304g, just enough to feel weighty and solid, without making your wrists tired.
The Wolverine V3 Pro, is marketed as an Xbox and PC controller, and thus features the typical Xbox design. Including the asymmetrical thumbsticks and the typical trigger/bumper setup. It’s when you turn it over you’ll notice some nice little extras. The controller’s back handles feature four paddles and two clear grip bumpers on top of the controller. This sleek back design is finished with two switches for activating the Razer Pro Hypertriggers. These provide immediate feedback and allow you to switch between a longer trigger pull and a shorter. They also give you a more mouse click-like feel, which I love.

Features
Given I’ve already talked about the standard Xbox/PC buttons, let’s start there. The Controller’s mecha-tactile action buttons and floating d-pad provide rapid inputs that are satisfying to press. That comes from someone who loves a mechanical keyboard. In case you needed a gauge! Speaking of buttons, my favourite aspect of the controller is how easy it is to remap the extra buttons found on the back. Simply hold the action button below the share button and then press the button and item you want to map. Just a few flashes of the Razer logo and you’re done. It’s a fantastic feature that allowed me to experiment with what I wanted the back paddles to be while still in-game! Just in case you were curious, I adapted mine for Call of Duty, with the crouch and jump buttons on the right side. It certainly improved my play.

If I told you the controller has Hall Effect thumbsticks, this may lead some of you to ask what that actually means. Hall Effect thumbsticks use a magnetic field for sensor movement rather than physical parts. Which not only gives you higher accuracy but also means you don’t have to worry about stick drift! Not to mention, except I will, the controller is more durable overall because of this and the anti-friction rings used. If you also like to customise your thumbsticks, you’ll be pleased to know the Wolverine V3 Pro comes with two easily swapped caps. One shorter and taller. The Shorter cap lends itself to a faster reaction time and a taller one gives even more precision to your movements.
App happy
You can also download an app from the Windows Store to give even greater customisation to the Wolverine V3 Pro. Opening up the ability to add a sensitivity clutch to your thumbsticks allows you to lower the sensitivity in those high-stakes moments. You can edit the button layout directly in the app as well as change the vibration strength.
Compatibility
It would be a mistake to think that the Wolverine V3 Pro is only capable of one type of connectivity. So wipe that thought from your head! This is Razer, you really think they haven’t spruced connection options up? You actually have two options!
Using the included USB Type-A Dongle will grant you an ultra-low latency 2.4 GHz connection. Which is good enough for those casual games with friends. But if you’re entering something more high stakes, you’ll want Tournament Mode. Just plug the USB cable into a PC and you’ll get 1000Hz polling rate using a keyboard shortcut. This doesn’t just sound impressive, but gives the Wolverine V3 Pro more precise movement for accuracy in those competitive situations.
My only drawback when talking about the connectivity features, is the dongle itself. More specifically in that I wish there was somewhere to store the dongle within the controller. It having it’s own place within the carry case is great, but sometimes you don’t want to have to hunt down a carry case mid game!

Final Thoughts
Having used this controller consistently for weeks now, I can confidently say the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro controller is one the best. Even when compared against heavy hitter competitors such as Nacon and Thrustmaster. This controller is genuinely now my go-to.
That being said I know it is not a controller that is price accessible. Afterall, not everyone has £200 to spend on a gaming peripheral. But if you’re lucky enough to have that chunk of cash, and are looking for a high end controller, this is the one to splash out on!
