It’s Nacon time again! This time, we are bringing a nice little review of the Nacon Revolution X Unlimited controller. This professional-grade controller retails for around £180 and boasts some neat features.
Long Live The Revolution
Can this controller replace whatever controller you are currently using? Does it offer something new to the market? Straight of the bat, the Nacon Revolution X Unlimited looks both similar and new, but what else makes this worthy of your hard-earned money? Let’s find out.
Design Features
Being officially licensed for the Xbox consoles, it feels familiar to anyone with a current Xbox. The face buttons are all in the right place, but there’s something that’s new. A small LCD screen at the top of the controller sits proudly. Like a new toy, this screen allows you to customise settings on the fly. Remap controls as well as mix the audio sources. This screen is functional, and that is about its limit. It’s handy to have, but I didn’t really make use of it all that much. Then again, I prefer to get all my settings sorted before I play a game.

With Hall effect thumbsticks, you can rely on the controller not developing stick drift over time. The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited benefits from the mechanical precision of micro-switch components. Giving you instant and responsive gameplay, along with 6 additional shortcut buttons that can be configured with different keyboard keys. So if you wanted to play something like Flight Sim with this controller, you have the benefit of a few extra shortcuts. Perfect.

Wireless connectivity through the dongle gives you a 2.4GHz connection; however, you can use the Bluetooth settings and connect to a multitude of devices. Meaning that although this controller is licensed for the Xbox, you can even use it with your Android devices. If you want that high-performance mode, then reduce the latency to 1ms by connecting with the included USB cable. Otherwise, through wireless, you have to deal with the 2ms latency. I know, first world problems and all that. You can even make use of the Gyroscope function on the directional pad, designed to simulate a joystick.
Profiles
One good thing with all the controllers that have been released recently is the ability to have custom profiles. The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited is no different. With up to 4 custom profiles per platform, you can import them and then program the shortcut keys using either the PC or the Xbox app. You can also use the app to customise the audio mixers, as well as joystick range adjustment and sensitivity.

With a great battery life of over 10 hours, you can play for long periods quite easily. Not to mention that it included a nice charging dock. So, just set the controller down on the contacts and it charges. Simplicity at its finest.
Finally included in the nice carry case is a number of weights, some joystick heads, a couple of d-pads and some joystick rings. Just to allow you to customise the controller to get it perfect for you. Over 60 different options, so I challenge you to find your best setup!
Final Thoughts
The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited is a pricey piece of kit. What it does offer, though, is plenty of customisation options to ensure that you can get it set up just right for you. Even in action, the controller is solid and sturdy. I played the majority of my testing time without any customisations, and it was the perfect setup for me. Thankfully, swapping each element is incredibly straightforward and takes seconds. So you can play around till your heart’s content until you find that perfect layout.
Swapping between a racing game and sports games felt easy, with no adjustment time needed, which isn’t something I usually say when using a controller.
The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited controllers get the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
