Developed and published in partnership with Meta Oculus Publishing, Mythic Realms aims to bridge the gap between a full VR experience and a Mixed Reality world. Released in mid-March, the game scratches the itch of gamers wanting to experience a D&D-esque experience. Does it deliver? Let’s find out.
Roll For Initiative
There are a lot of games out there on the Quest platform. What makes Mythic Realms worth your money?
Gameplay
Starting up the game, you step into the boots of your hero. Getting ready to play out an epic adventure of mythical proportions. You journey to new realms, choosing your own path as you try to build up your own town. Using a portal, you head into the mixed reality world to battle skeletons, dragons, and other enemies.
It isn’t all about killing enemies, though; you need to think about your resources as well. Featuring a bunch of quests from characters in the “real world”, you may find yourself on a mission to get as much wood as possible, or to gather fish…

Each time you head out onto a mission, you have multiple options, and each time it’s slightly different. Whether you want to just go through defeating enemies, or just spend a whole mission catching fish. You chose your way through. This is what makes Mythic Realms such an immersive experience.
Roomscale
The mixed reality portion of the game uses your roomscale data. Take the time to scan in your room properly and accurately, and all of a sudden, it’s game on. With enemies climbing over your furniture, hiding in your walls and more. It also gives you more confidence that you can walk around your room and not inadvertently knock down the mirror hanging on your wall.
It really was fun to have the enemies in your front room. Being able to jump around your front room whilst vanquishing the bad guys just feels good.

Weapons
You’re probably screaming at me while you’re ready. Wanting to know who you can play as on your epic adventure. Well, in Mythic Realm, you get to choose either a knight, ranger, or mage. Making use of a variety of weapons, including swords, claws, wands, bows and more. As you further your adventure, you are able to upgrade your weaponry to get the most out of them. Unlocking their full ability is important, as the further on you get, the more difficult the journey becomes.
Graphics & Audio
Being a VR/MR game, Mythic Realm features great graphics. Its vibrant colours and models add to your adventure. Giving you the feeling that you are playing through a great animation. It reminded me a little of the original Dungeons & Dragons cartoon from the 80s. Not implying that the graphics are cartoon-like, but the colour palette used.
The sounds in Mythic Realms are great. With plenty of thunk and thwack sound effects letting you know that you’ve made contact. Also, what would a Dungeons and Dragons style game be without a nice soundtrack? You will not be disappointed.

Longevity
With somewhere between 6 and 9 hours of gameplay on average. You have a great experience in store for you. However, if you want to take longer and not rush through the journeys, then you can be playing this for 10+ hours quite happily. Just make sure you have a battery strap so you don’t need to stop for charging time.
Final Thoughts
I’ve absolutely loved my time with Mythic Realms, and I will continue to venture back into the fight. Bringing colourful graphics as well as an immersive adventure. Giving D&D fans an experience in VR that they can enjoy at any time.
Mythic Realms receives the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
