Have you wanted to dive into the realm of sim racing? Ever been confused with all the wheel manufacturers out there? You may have heard of Thrustmaster, Logitech, and maybe even Fanatec. However, have you heard of Moza Racing? Because they may well be my favourite manufacturer out there. I was incredibly fortunate to be sent the Moza Racing R3 bundle. It comes with a nice set of pedals, a wheelbase, and a steering wheel. The Moza Racing bundle has incredible features, with something that might make it speed to the top of your wishlist.

I Am Speed.

As with every piece of hardware, you need to ensure it fits in your setup. The R3 is no different, but we will check out the design and then move on to some of the killer features of this small but mighty wheelbase.

R3 Wheelbase

The powerhouse behind every steering wheel is no doubt the wheelbase. The Moza Racing R3 wheelbase is an incredible piece of engineering. With a 3.9Nm Direct Drive servo motor, it allows you to feel all the bumps and ridges in the road. Even the feeling of your tyres slipping is fed directly into your hands.

The wheelbase, in comparison to other wheels I have used, is minuscule. So much so that I had to take a picture (see below). With a quick-release system to release the wheel from its housing, you can quickly swap any wheel in the Moza Racing lineup. Making the Moza Racing R3 bundle an incredible entry-level for any budding sim racer.

It’s Just A Baby!

Being made from Aviation grade Aluminium alloy the wheelbase does weigh a little. However, when it’s clamped to the desk or attached to a wheel stand it’s sturdy. My chosen method of mounting was using the desk clamps. These were great and even attached to my tempered glass top desk securely enough for me to fly through the corners on F1 2024.

Being compatible with the Xbox and the PC there is an incredibly large library of racing games. Featuring some awesome games such as Assetto Corsa, F1, Project Cars and so many more. Each works seamlessly with the Moza Racing R3.

Steering Wheel

Every wheelbase is as good as the steering wheel. Thankfully the one that comes in the Moza Racing R3 bundle is pretty good. Made up of an aluminium face plate and shifter paddle, with a polyurethane grip giving you decent handling. Switching from side to side through the corners with ease. A nice modest 280mm size meaning it’s not quite a true steering wheel size, but it’s close enough that you won’t notice it. With 22 customisable buttons, all can be individually assigned in the Moza Pit House app.

If you are playing manual gears there is a nice bright RGB strip along the top that will light up and flash when it’s time to change gear. This helps as you get a visual cue instead of having to guess based on engine noise. You can adjust these in the Pit House as well. This means the Moza Racing R3 just keeps getting better and better.

Pedals

The final piece of the puzzle, the pedals. Made of high-strength steel these pedals can take a beating. Which is fortunate as you are going to be putting through rigorous gaming. Transferring from accelerator to brake with ease due to the distance between them when they come out of the box. Don’t worry though, the distance between them is adjustable. This is fortunate as if you purchase the clutch pedal upgrade you are going to have to move them closer.

To be fair the amount of adjustment that you can do with the Moza Racing R3 pedals is pretty impressive. Add to that the ability to adjust the input curves, or how sensitive a pedal is using the Moza Pit House app. It’s pretty good.

Extra Information

The Moza Racing R3 bundle is an incredible piece of kit for the price. This might just make it the best piece of kit for the price too. All of the existing wheels that Moza has on their site are compatible with the R3 wheelbase. Meaning you can upgrade your kit quite easily.

There are also some other accessories that you can purchase and add to the wheelbase. Fancy just getting a wheel mod to turn your steering wheel into a Formula-style one? No problem, Moza has you covered. Want to upgrade the brake pedal to make it feel slightly more realistic? Moza has you covered. Even if you want to add multi-function stalks they are available.

Final Thoughts

The Moza Racing R3 bundle is incredible. It’s a permanent feature in my setup now, being used more than when I had the CSL Elite from Fanatec. The addition of all the extra accessories to the setup just makes it an incredible option if you are looking to get into the sim racing world. Especially when you consider the price tag is less than £400 from the Moza website.

The Moza Racing R3 Bundle gets the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.
