Read Time:3 Minute, 25 Second

If you, like me, are always looking for a new experience in virtual reality, then keep reading! How does a supernatural world that, during your playtime with the game, you will bridge the gap of sound? Intriguing right? That’s exactly what Ghost Town by Fireproof Games offers to players.

I Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghost

I was excited to get hands-on with this game, being a bit of a spooky game fan. Sitting at a 4.8 rating on the Meta store, you can rest assured that you are in for a treat with this one! Let’s take a closer look at just why that is.

Gameplay

You start the game playing as Edith, exploring a seemingly abandoned theatre. You are there with your brother Adam. In this section, we get a glimpse of Edith’s powers, being able to head into Limbo and help souls finally be at rest. Playing through this section gave me an insight into what was to come. This section genuinely gave me goosebumps in certain areas just from the atmosphere alone. Which as you can imagine, bodes well for the rest of the game.

The sense of foreshadowing is real

Once you have played through this initial level, you are then pushed forward four years. Your brother has gone missing, and your paranormal detective agency has never been busier. You try to use all your skills and know-how to discover more information about his mysterious disappearance. Alongside your flatmate Rina, you take on mission after mission.

As you progress through each level, you are greeted with different puzzles. Each puzzle in Ghost Town needs a logical mind. They aren’t puzzles that you are just going to accidentally solve. So I recommend that you step back, metaphorically, and look at the whole picture. There is something about solving a puzzle in this game that makes you feel alive, like each little step is a step towards unravelling the mystery of your brother’s disappearance. Don’t forget to keep a keen eye out in the environment, as to be able to help a spirit pass on, you will need an object that means something to them. I recommended checking everything out within each environment. Thankfully, the items that you can pick up stand out but enjoying the scenery is always recommended.

Hmm, something interesting is happening here

Graphics & Audio

Graphically, Ghost Town is one of the best-looking VR games that I’ve played on the Meta Quest 3. The environments are clean, the player models are incredible, and the atmosphere is astounding. I know that is a lot of buzzwords, but I was honestly blown away. One element that I always look out for in any video game is the way that the characters’ mouths move when speaking. The mouth movements were spot on. I honestly could not fault it whatsoever.

The voice acting was brilliant as well. You can tell the developers have spent a lot of time creating an engaging script. I was hooked instantly. The sound effects used and environmental sounds also added to the atmosphere that was achieved by Fireproof Games.

Yes, this is really in VR

Longevity

Ghost Town will take around 5 hours for you to complete. So whilst the game is not a long and lengthy experience, it is one that you will absolutely enjoy from start to finish. Unfortunately, like so many games like this, there isn’t much of a replayability factor once you’ve finished. So just make sure that you enjoy every minute of the gameplay.

Final Thoughts

Ghost Town is one of the most accomplished VR experiences that I have had. Bringing incredible storytelling, with great graphics, and then delivering it in an experience that will blow you away.
