Another week, and another set of speakers dropping into the TC HQ. This time it’s the Edifier MG300 Bluetooth Speakers. A neat little computer tabletop speaker designed for sitting just under your monitor.
BOOM BOOM BOOM
So just what is under the skin of the MG300? Well, we will do our best to enlighten you, so join us as we dive into the exterior of these tabletop speakers and find the goodies.
Design
Coming in at around 49cm in width, and only 7cm high, the Edifier MG300 Bluetooth Speakers are sleek. They will quite easily sit underneath a monitor or even a TV with ease. The black slanted edges are even designed to minimise those dreaded desktop reflections. The metal mesh finish gives the impression that a high-quality piece of kit sits on your desk.
Moving to the top of the speaker, you have the nice soft touch silicone buttons. Buttons for play and pause, as well as the volume buttons. Oh and a button specifically for controlling the RGB. There’s even a tiny little mic covered with silicone, designed to get rid of any external vibrations and allow you to have nice and clear voice calls.

Overall the design is pretty nice. It looked just as good under my dual monitor setup as it did in the front room in front of the TV.
Features
Now for the juicy bits of the MG300’s review. Features! Packing a set of dual customised 52mm full-range speakers, this is an audio set up designed to deliver natural sound with a powerful bass punch. Each speaker has been tuned 30 times to ensure that it’s perfect for every sound it delivers. I have to admit that using them plugged into the PlayStation 5 via the USB cable was a lot of fun. They performed well and were an upgrade on the television speakers. With a built-in sound card allowing it to just be plugged in using the USB and no other cable is needed.
With the ability to change sound modes depending on what you are listening to. The MG300 has both a Music and a Game mode. In the Music mode, the voice is amplified to give you clear vocals. Whereas in the Game mode, all the details on the game are given the clarity that is needed to have the edge over your competition.
With both USB and Bluetooth connection, you can pretty much connect to the vast majority of devices. Add to that it has Bluetooth V5.3 which transmits the signal faster allowing for less audio lag when connected via this method. Even with the 30m connection range, the Bluetooth option might be perfect if you want to just connect your phone, but want to walk around the office.

Connection
Having a USB connection means the number of devices you can connect to increases dramatically. For the majority of the testing, I had it connected to the USB port of my PlayStation 5. Playing on the big TV with the sound coming through the speakers was a great experience. However, it did show up the one flaw that the Edifier MG300 has. The lack of a remote.
Now I know that some of you reading this will argue that this is meant to be connected to a PC, so why would you need a remote? But I also have a set of Edifier desktop speakers, and yes those do actually sit on my desk, but they come with a remote control. It’s something so small, but would allow much better control. Especially when once you switch the speakers on, after being in standby mode, they are set to the lowest setting rather than remembering the volume they were at.
Final Thoughts
Overall the Edifier MG300 Bluetooth Speaker is a great little piece of kit. Available for around the £60 region they are definitely a worthwhile investment if you want a neat set of speakers to sit on your desk. Whilst they won’t deliver the sound quality of a pair of headphones, they are perfectly able to deliver good-quality sound.
Therefore I award the Thumb Culture Gold Award. Please bear in mind that this Gold Award takes into account the price as well as the sound quality on offer.
