In Chocolate Factory Simulator: Prologue the player steps into the shoes of an upstart Chocolatier who aims to make a name for themselves. The devs Games Incubator and PlayWays S.A. have made a small demo available on steam so you can try this prologue out too. Let’s get to cooking!
Bite sized Chocolatiering
Gameplay
In the prologue, we get access to only a few areas, the workshop in where we will find a trash chute and our assistant Nougat. Nougat is a robot who teaches you the fundamentals of chocolate making. This leads us to the main area where the magic happens, and where you will find a trusty manual and some pots.
The manual holds information such as recipes for making white, milk and dark chocolate. These are the only three options available to us. Although I am hopeful it will be possible to unlock more upon the full release of Chocolate Factory Simulator. The manual also offers you a place to purchase and keep track of stock/inventory.
Taking order and making chocolate.
Before you begin making any chocolate in Chocolate Factory Simulator, you must select an order by using the nearby telephone. This will display the client and order information. Once you have taken on an order, you can start making the product. The first crucial step being measuring the precise ingredients needed for the batch. It was here I was glad that I could move the mouse slowly in order to pour my ingredients accurately!
Some orders are going to want specific things added, for example, coffee or pistachios. If a client wants a special ingredient, you need to adjust the original chocolate recipes to make up for it. Fortunately, the manual has a slider near the recipe, which proves quite useful when adjusting the original chocolate recipes to accommodate the client’s wishes.
Cooking and the finishing touches.
Once you’ve finished adding all your ingredients, it’s now time to heat and mix them together. After placing the pot onto the cooker, turn the valve until the mixture reaches the recipe’s required temperature. This can take a bit of time even with the valve cranked to 100%. After cooking, we move over to the Shaper machine. Here we can select what shape the bar will come out. Although the prologue only has one option, which is the traditional rectangle.
Now for the grand finale, packaging, here we place the bar on a conveyer belt, pick a design and the bam! Our chocolate is ready to be sent out. It’s worth mentioning that you also have to perform maintenance on any machine used. So, grab your wrench from the workshop and tighten any loose bolts that have a little green paint on them.
Final Thoughts
I enjoyed the Chocolate Factory Simulator’s prologue. It’s quite short and ends just as the game is about to introduce Nougat being upgraded. In the full release, I expect Nougat will assist the player in the kitchen. How effective he will be who knows! One regular issue I had when playing, was when placing the chocolate into the Shaper. The machine would say clean out instead of letting me grab the finished bar. I don’t know if the shaper needs to be cleaned, but it was annoying having to redo the entire process.
The packaging area states that you’ll have the freedom to create your own package designs, which may be interesting for the more creative individuals out there. Overall, I’ll wish list the game but I don’t think I will rush to pick it up.
