During a fireside chat at the WASD event in London Ali-A has announced, in partnership with YouTube, the launch of a new global talent show, to find the next star gaming creator along with a grand prize of $100,000!

The uTure show kicks off today at 6pm (9 April 2022) with the entry process being opened up for submissions from until the 8 May 2022.

The submissions must be in English and submitted as a YouTube Short, the video platforms new TikTok-style video format, of up to 60 seconds. Applicants must then upload their video to YouTube Shorts using the hashtag #uTureShow, then submit it to uture.show to be in with a chance to appear on the show.

The uTure competition is the brain-child of Ali A (Alastair Aitken), who has more than 25 million subscribers across his YouTube channels, specialising in Fortnite, Call of Duty and “Reaction” videos. He will be joined on the judging panel by fellow YouTube mega-creators Lachlan, LilSimsie and Vikkstar to just name a few.

In a statement issued by YouTube, Ali-A stated:

“YouTube is the home to tens of thousands of brilliant gaming creators who haven’t yet been discovered. It is my hope that uTure will give all these creative individuals their moment to shine and learn from gaming veterans in the space in front of YouTube’s millions-strong global audience”

In June, the top 10 applicants will face weekly content-creation challenges. Spread over 9 weeks and hosted on a new, dedicated uTure YouTube channel. Episodes will be broadcast twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, each showcasing a new challenge to the contenders. Judges will not only score the contestants but also provide feedback to each of them.

Viewers will be able to vote for their favourite contestants during the live event over at the uTure.show site. However, the final decision who advances and who will eventually win, comes down to Ali-A and his fellow judging panel.

In a statement from Lester Chen, Global head of gaming creators at YouTube “We’re committed to nurturing unique and diverse talent by providing opportunities on an open platform with a truly global reach, many of our brightest stars find ways to use gaming as a vehicle for storytelling and creative expression.”

Just 2 months after shutting down their original productions channel, this shows that YouTube is keen to still produce special-event programmes, and we at Thumb Culture will certainly be tuning in to the competition!
