We love racing games here at TC, well any type of vehicular experience. When we heard that Aerosoft were releasing the Aerosoft Truck and Bus Wheel System, well, we were intrigued. After a few emails with the ever-helpful PR, we were on the waiting list to receive one of these pieces of hardware.
So what exactly is this hardware package? Let’s dive into the rest of the article and find out what the features are, and find out whether the package is worth spending your hard-earned money on.
In the bundle in the box comes three elements, steering wheel, gear stick and pedals. We will take a look at each individually, then give our final thoughts and give our verdict.
Steering Wheel
Toted as a “High-Performance Features” wheel, you might think this is going to be something incredibly special. Whilst it has some great features, it certainly isn’t as high-end as I had hoped. It features a 40cm wheel with a 1080 degree turning angle, a whole bunch of buttons for you to configure however you wish, and a couple of stalks on the wheel, one for your turn signals and lights. The other one is free for whatever you want it to do.

With metal clamps allowing you to clamp it to your desk. This wheel sits proud and large waiting for you to get to grips with it. It truly is quite something. That is until you start to use it. The wheel doesn’t feel smooth, you can feel the gears and notches as you turn in both directions. Now, don’t get me wrong it’s not entirely bad news. It was fun to use, having something as accurate to real life while playing Euro Truck Sim 2 was a lot of fun.
The most difficult bit was managing to get the wheel configured. It was a pain to go through and individually configure each control option rather than just plug and play. It meant that you couldn’t just get started on a game until you had gone through everything, regardless of whether or not a specific control or button had a specific use.
Gear Stick
Once again this has the “High-Performance” label again, and this one might be able to warrant it with either H-shift or sequential shift modes, and a range selector knob for low and high gears. This accurately replicates what you might come to expect in some of the big rigs you see on the roads.

This part of the Aerosoft Truck and Bus System features 12 small and 2 big programmable buttons. All with a background light to show when they are active. With a mounting point for your phone or tablet if you use that as a display of some kind.
Pedals
The final piece of the puzzle. Although calling these “high-performance” is a bit of a stretch. Featuring a large accelerator pedal that you can rest your feet on, and a clutch pedal if you are using manual gears. The brake pedal is straight up and down, with no real restriction or real feel when it comes to brakes.
Compatibility
The Aerosoft Truck and Bus System is seemingly compatible with a whole host of top trucking games. Including Euro Truck Simulator 2, American Truck Simulator and even some of Aerosoft’s own games. However, that’s not quite the whole picture. Even with their own games the wheel didn’t seem to be a simple plug-and-play. With constant setting up and editing setups, it just felt a bit of a let-down. Once you had it set up, it was decent and accurate as well as fun to use, but that setup phase ruined the overall experience for me.
Hopefully Aerosoft can come up with a better way to get setup, maybe with some auto-configuration tool allowing quicker access to gaming. Time will tell.
For now the Aerosoft Truck and Bus Wheel System receives the Thumb Culture Silver Award.
