You may have seen our news piece announcing the launch of the DH2300 Plus. In the meantime, while we’re waiting for our review unit, UGREEN sent us their NASync DH4300 Plus to see what the fuss was all about. So let us check out just why you should be switching to local backups instead of online cloud based systems.

Leaving The Cloud

So as I’ve aluded to above, using a NAS is a great alternative to using a cloud based system. Find out more information below.

Design Features

As you get the UGREEN NASync DH4300 Plus out of the box, you are greeted with a sleek metallic grey box. Within the removable lid you are greeted with 4 hard drive bays. These can either be filled with 3.5 inch hard drives, or the smaller 2.5 inch ones. I didn’t try a mix but I’ll be honest, the unit will probably only work to the slowest speed. Depending on what setup option you pick.

Grey and Light Grey, perfection!

In the box was a power cable, a HDMI cable and a bunch of screws and screwdriver. Alongside the installation instructions, which were a doddle to follow. Simply plug in the hard drives, then turn on the unit and the rest can be handled through a mobile app. Giving it 5-10 minutes to initialise the setup was incredibly straight forward. Setting up how you want the storage to be handled, and then getting to grips with the operating system within the NAS.

There was a whole host of apps from a media gallery, video player, as well as a bittorrent client (which I don’t condone the use of). After I got setup, I moved over onto the PC and browsed the DH4300 using a web browser. This turned the browser into a computer-esque style allowing us to move around the operating system with ease.

So Many Uses

So there are many uses for a NAS, one of those is to use it as a backup. This would be my primary usage and straight away I set it up to do a backup of my phone camera roll. It was straight forward – simply create a folder and then set it to backup. It really was simple.

Installation is incredibly straight forward

Other uses include creating a media gallery, of even hosting your own server for your favourite game. Honestly there are some smart people out there that have their NASs set up in some incredible ways. Let’s not beat around the bush though. The main use for the UGREEN NASync DH4300 Plus is to replace other costly cloud based storage solutions.

Whilst I can hear you saying about how expensive it is to initially get a NAS set up, and I would agree, once you are setup you can expand the storage as you need. All the while it being free to make use of. So, eventually, there will come the point that the savings and potential start to outweigh the initial cost.

Final Thoughts

I know I’ve not gone into depth in terms of the specification of the NAS, but honestly, I feel its slightly irrelevant. If you are looking for a new storage solution, then it’s cracking. The only hesitation would be down to the price, and at the time of writing this, this unit is just over £300. So if your pockets are deep enough, snap this up!

Easily, I give the UGREEN NASync DH4300 Plus a Thumb Culture Gold Award.
