Have you ever wanted to play the latest racing game on your PC but were never able to? Whether it is because you don’t have space for a sim rig, or even because you don’t have a desk. Well, the Turtle Beach Racer Wireless Wheel aims to change that. This fancy wireless wheel looks to fill gaps in the market that have only been reserved for traditional controllers.

Wheeling Out The Big Guns

Retailing at £139.99, the Turtle Beach Racer Wireless Wheel is cheaper than most of the other steering wheels out there. However, does it give you the same racing experience, or does it leave you wanting? Let’s find out!

Design Features

Let’s start off with the wireless facts. With a battery life of up to 30 hours, you can play and charge just by plugging it into your computer. Giving you plenty of life for those long racing sessions. With a soft touch grip, it’s actually a nice, comfortable wheel to play on. Alongside the lap mounts, you don’t even need to be up close to your screen. However, if you want, you can clamp it onto your desk or table with the included clamps. It’s nice and easy to attach as well, with two rotating tighteners; it literally takes minutes.

Familiarity is always good

Officially licensed for Xbox Consoles and Windows PCs, you get the typical button layout you might expect. You also get a controller mode allowing you to use the wheel on games like Rocket League. I mean, having played it for years on a controller, that honestly sounds like a lot of fun. You get a 3.5mm audio connection with controls and two mappable quick action buttons for specific inputs you might need.

If you download the Control Centre 2 companion app, you can configure a multitude of options. You can make the wheel more responsive, or even calibrate the throttle and brake paddles. Oh, did I not mention that? You have two pedal paddles, so where you would have the shift levers on a traditional steering wheel, these are now the accelerator and brake pedals. It takes a little getting used to, especially if you are braking as you turn into a corner. After a while, however, it becomes second nature.

Racing Time

So, I took to some laps on F1 2025, after a few laps where I ended up with grass on my tyres, I started to get in the groove. You can’t be as aggressive, but you can certainly put in some great lap times. The hardest part of using this wheel is the fact that you need to keep your digits on the paddles. Otherwise, you end up coming out of a corner and just coming to a dead stop.

The wheel itself centres nicely, and with it only having a 360-degree rotation, depending on your game, you might have to do a bit of configuring. I am, however, shocked at how much fun I had with the Turtle Beach Racer Wireless Wheel. Even compared to the other steering wheels that I’ve reviewed recently.

Final Thoughts

So what’s left to say? Not much to be honest. In essence, it’s a great piece of hardware, whether you are racing in a serious tournament or just as a fun social gaming session, the Wireless Wheel is a great investment. Some, however, might just want to pay a little bit extra and get a fully fledged wheel setup.
