Pixel Worlds Review – Minecraft This Is Not

In Pixel Worlds players can create their own worlds with building blocks and different items that range from furniture to clothing items. Players also build platform levels for others to play, marketplaces for trading the ingame items and info worlds to help new players, among other things. Privately held mobile games developer, Kukouri Mobile Entertainment developed this game for high end mobile devices like Apple iPhone, iPad and Android platforms, but for this review I played through Steam. Gameplay I had very little expectations going into Pixel Worlds. I knew basically nothing about it other than it was something like Minecraft, which I have played and enjoy for some relaxing building, but boy was this nothing like Minecraft! The first faux pas for me was that you had to choose ...

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy – Yes it is that good!

Wow, just wow!  From the moment that family friendly Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy was delivered through my door last Friday we as a household have been hooked.  As soon as the familiar voice-over begins on the intro screen it is as if I have been transported back to when I was 16 years old when the original first edition came out on the the Playstation 1.  I must confess that at this point I wasn't a huge console gamer, the PS1 infact belonged to my 8 year old sister who had parted with her birthday money earlier that year at Woolworth's.  I was still pretty much hooked on the Atari ST however changes were beginning to happen as many of my friends began to go down the console route. So does Crash Bandicoot live up to the hype that it has generated since its release?  Well quiet si...

Nex Machina Review – Dodge, Dip, Dive, Duck and Dodge

Nex Machina, a collaboration between Housemarque (Resogun and Alienation) and legendary game developer Eugene Jarvis (massively famous for Defender, Robotron & NARC), is an explosive arcade experience that gives a strong nod towards the fun coin-op games I used to play down the arcades in the 80s/90s. As I patiently wait for the game to load I am greeted by the intro screen showing a machine of death, its eyes glowing on and off, red with power.  The retro arcade electronic music kicks in and I am prompted to press X to continue. Gameplay A list of game options presents itself and allows you to either experience arcade mode; an arena; or a single world.  A grin crosses my face as I see that local 2 player co-op is supported (I'm easily pleased as I seldom get to play on my own...

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam Review

1960’s music blaring – check. Helicopters – check. 64 player US versus Vietnamese matches on a variety of interesting and unique maps – CHECK. Rising Storm 2 puts you in the shoes of one a range of different soldiers and classes with the aim of battling it out in an unforgiving and hard-core FPS where team work and communication is vital. Gameplay Rising Storm 2 is a follow on PC only FPS title from the makers of Red Orchestra, a hard-core and challenging range of FPS titles which really does rely on good team work and not Call of Duty-esque run and gunning. With the choice of two battling sides, both equipped with a variety of different solider classes, you are tasked with finding a class suited to your play style and then either attacking or defending points from the onslaught ...

Portal Knights Review – Did Anyone Say Minecraft

Portal Knights is a cooperative 3D sandbox action-RPG, developed by Keen Games and published by 505 Games. It's a game about mining and crafting for a better arsenal ready to take on fiends on your quest, trying to restore peace to the universe. The plot of Portal Knights is quite simple but it adds a nice context to the world and whats going on. The game is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Steam. Story "In the forgotten days, the world was peaceful and whole. But the Fracture arrived, and tore the realm apart. Now the only connection between disparate lands are the ancient portals... and they are guarded by covetous fiends who thrive in the darkness. The world awaits heroes who will restore light to the portals, and reunite the peaceful realm." Jumping into the game, it gave me the o...

Black & White Bushido Review – Yin Meets Yang!

Black & White Bushido by Good Catch Games is now available on XBox One & PS4, bringing to the table a mixture of stealth, skill, death and ultimately great fun!  Released on PC via Steam back in October 2015, Black & White Bushido was well received by gamers therefore the battle between light and shadow finally coming to consoles is a very anticipated hit. Black & White Bushido is an arena based couch competitive and newly introduced online multiplayer, samurai sword, shuriken throwing battle between two factions; the light and the shadow.  I am probably showing my age if I described it as being similar to Atari's Joust but this isn't a bad thing, far from it, this is building upon a classic platform game and making it their own, something that Good Catch Games have carr...

Seasons After Fall Review – Ori For The PS4?

The very first thing you will notice about  Seasons After Fall, this charming little puzzle platformer developed by French company Swing Swing Submarine is its gorgeous audio-visual presentation at the start of the game. It reminded me very much of a scene in Watership Down (If you haven’t seen this movie yet, make sure you do and have a box of tissues at the ready) I was very excited to receive this to review because I just love platformers, and platformers with puzzles involved are a win win! Plus, who doesn’t enjoy playing as a cute fox? Join me as we look at the aspects of this visually delightful game. Gameplay To put it as simply as possible, it’s a beautiful 2D Puzzle Platformer, but let’s get you up to speed a little better…The title starts you in the role of a ‘seed’ or a sp...

Splody Review – Has Bomberman Been Resurrected

Splody, by development studio Dashing Strike, is the latest Bomberman clone that has exploded its way onto the indie game circuit.  Created specifically for PC and accessible through Steam, the development of Splody is thanks to the founder and owner of Dashing Strike, Jimb Esser. Jimb, who has worked developing online multiplayer games since 2003, has been the brains behind games such as City of Heroes, Star Trek Online and Neverwinter Online therefore is no novice when it comes to the online genre.  As a child I loved Bomberman so I was very interested to have a play on Splody to see how it stacked up! For anyone, dare I say it, that has never seen a Bomberman style game before (don't make me feel old!) this is how it works.  Move fast, drop bombs, collect powerups, kill or be ...
