Hi-Fi Rush – PC Review

Coming from Japanese developer Tango Gameworks and American publisher Bethesda, don't miss a beat with Hi-Fi Rush. Hi-Fi Rush threw us all for a loop when it was shadow-dropped on 25th Jan. Available for Xbox Series X|S and PC, today we'll be looking at the PC version. Hi-Fi Rush is included with Gamepass and will require 20GB of space. For those who wish to purchase it, it will cost £29.99/$29.99 on the Microsoft Store. All of your trebles are dead and gone! Hi-Fi Rush was a massive departure for developer Tango Gameworks who are usually known for their more spooky titles, such as The Evil Within and Ghostwire Tokyo. All things considered, the question has to be asked why they didn't do it sooner. Seriously, this game is brilliant! At this point, the combat rhythm game isn't a...

This Land is My Land – PC Review

After the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 which showcased settlers in the untamed lands that went on to be the USA, some gamers wanted a Native Indian's take on that time of turmoil. The game developers, Game-Labs, set about creating just that with This Land is My Land, a game full of beautiful scenery and wilderness, aimed at survival and growth. We got a chance to get our hands on the game recently. All of this Land is Yours - Take it! I was drawn into playing This Land is My Land after seeing the trailer. The graphics looked great and the concept of a strategy/survival game based on Native Indians intrigued me. If you love a good survival, let us know in the comments your favourites. Gameplay From the off, in the main menu, the game gives you the option to start a resistance ra...

Toy Soldiers HD – Switch Review

Released on Nintendo Switch NYE '22, Toy Soldiers HD is an overhaul of the easily recognisable 2010 tower defense game by Signal Studios. Published by Accelerate Games, Toy Soldiers HD supports handheld, tabletop and TV mode. Toy Soldiers HD - Construct your Defences Carefully I was a big fan of Toy Soldiers: War Chest back in the Xbox 360 days however I haven't had the pleasure of playing an HD version of Toy Soldiers so far or on the Nintendo Switch. Let's get the band playing and move onto the battlefield! Gameplay There is something quite nostalgic when it comes to the Toy Soldiers franchise. Admittedly I have been so busy that there have been some old classics that I have simply forgotten to go back to.  As Toy Soldiers HD loads you are greeted by a haunting male voice accompa...

OmegaBot – PS5 Review

Over time games have become more complex and take more people to make. Indie developers increasingly find it hard to get their games into the limelight and earn returns on their hard work. OmegaBot is a 2D action platformer that harkens back to the days when games were made by much smaller teams, in much shorter time, yet still captivated us with the most important element - Gameplay. OmegaBot - Mankind's last hope Developed by solo indie developer Simon Carny and initially released on PC in June 2022, the game arrives now on home consoles. Available digitally on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch the Red Art Games published title also has a physical release on PlayStation and Switch. Gameplay When a mysterious plague turns all living creatures in the world into mindless robots, Omega...

Need For Speed Unbound PS5 Review

Need for Speed Unbound is the latest in the NFS franchise and is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S as well as PC. Developed by Criterion Software, famed for their Burnout games, and published by EA, will Unbound be a winner or one to drive by? NFS Unbound - The World is your Canvas With a bit of a twist when it comes to graphics, I know that many have been a bit wary of how this iteration of NFS looks. The ultimate question is a simple one; Does it work and play well? Gameplay While Criterion has made some of my all-time favourite arcade racing games such as Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Burnout Paradise (A title I have somehow managed to buy since its launch in 2008 on almost every platform along the way!) NFS Unbound has seemingly ventured into a very vibrant and graffiti-cultu...

I, AI – Xbox One Review

Our new writer Savvas writes his first review for Thumb Culture! I, AI was initially released in July 2020 by Satur Entertainment. It is a single-player vertically scrolling shooter that has used the classic scrolling shooter formula and added modern graphics. Scrolling shooters are a genre I have always been fond of, playing 1942, Super Airwolf and Metal Slug as a kid got me hooked, and it’s a genre that I still gravitate to. Going into the recently launched I, AI on the Xbox platform, I was pretty excited and hoping for that experience, so here are my thoughts. I, AI - Ratatat-tat your way to freedom! In I,AI you play as a self-aware AI who was created in a lab to develop weapons. Realizing this, they are now trying to make an escape. They escape the lab and take over a spaceship...

Battle Axe – PS5 Review

Developed by Henk Nieborg and Bitmap Bureau Ltd we have Battle Axe. The nostalgic-styled hack-n' slash was originally released in 2021 with Q4 2022 release for the Playstation 5 Special edition. Mercia Will Not Rest! So join me as I jump into Mercia with my trusty character on my journey to Etheldred's lair! If you haven't already make sure you also check out our review of Final Vendetta! Gameplay After admiring the Playstation 5 Battle Axe Special Edition sleeve and 13-track OST I thought it was about time I jumped into the game. You are greeted with nothing but stunning pixel art and instantaneously meet your nemesis Etheldred and make your way to the menus. From here you can choose your playstyle (Solo or Co-Op) and amend any settings. Choosing your hero will determine your gameplay...

Swordship – PS5 Review

I love when indie developers put a fresh take on beloved game genres. That's exactly what Digital Kingdoms have delivered with Swordship. Dubbed a "dodge'em up" this, the fourth title from the Swiss team is their most ambitious game yet! Bringing a Swordship to a Gunfight Set in a world where most of the lands have become submerged by the seas, most of humanity has moved to three huge underwater cities. While these cities bustle with trade through a constant flow of containers filled with goods, there are those banished from the cities that struggle to survive in the remaining barren and inhospitable lands. Rising up against the big cities, skilled pilots use lightning-fast ships to steal some of the containers and deliver them to the banished. You are one such pilot. Gamep...

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – PC Review

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is the latest offering from game developers Fatshark released on 30th November 2022. The devs have had success previously with best-selling and award-winning Vermintide. Here however you are flung into a dystopian world full of corruption and war. The game sees you take the role of a repurposed prison escapee thrown into serving the army, who are fighting off a heretical cult known as the Admonition. STOP.....HAMMER TIME! Warhammer 40,000: Darktide's main feature is teaming up with others to work together in a multiplayer co-op style of gameplay. I find myself gravitating towards this style of gameplay. I love where games feature a more co-op style of gameplay as opposed to the PVP games such as Warzone. Do you enjoy co-op games like this? If so, leave a commen...

Bayonetta 3 – Switch Review

It was a little strange of me to put my name forward to review Bayonetta 3 (PlatinumGames). I haven’t played the other two in the series, but I’ve always been intrigued by Bayonetta’s passionate and loyal following—and also by Bayonetta herself, the witch with guns for shoes and clothes made out of her own hair. I wondered if this action game, in the same genre as No More Heroes and NieR:Automata, would be accessible to newcomers even if it was the third in the series, like in a Zelda or Metroid, where starting with the third or fourth game doesn’t matter. The conclusion on that count is certainly mixed, but I also had a hell of a good time finding out. A MOST BEWITCHING TIME It seems obligatory (and logical) in reviews for Bayonetta 3 to list examples of its wild eccentricities. The gam...
